Upcoming Caney Creek Wilderness trail work
The following is from a email that I sent out to all that have either helped or has said that they would be interested in helping in the Caney Creek Wilderness area to help maintain the wonderful trails. By the way Caney Creek was Arkansas first wilderness area:
First off I would like to thank all that helped last year! You cut
thru, by my estimate, at least 30 trees! All by hand. Some of those
were very large trees!! This year I would like to mainly work on the
brush.
The main thing I want to accomplish this hiking season in Caney Creek
is to clear up the Buckeye trail were it heads down off the main ridge
down to Caney Creek. There are places that it is very hard to follow.
This will mainly be brush work. I don't think there are very many trees down from the East trail head up the Buckeye. Now
there may be going West but that will just have to wait. I know that the
contract crew that the FS hired last winter left some trees that I
would like to eventually clear. Any way that is what I would like to
accomplish.
I am getting a later than normal start this season due to a problem with my Right knee. I am now on meds and every thing appears to be doing well. The wife and I are planning on doing a little brush work
Sunday from the E. Trailhead, mainly as a test for my knee.
The first organized work date will be Sat. Dec. 19th. This could be a
full weekend outing we will just see how it works out. Please email me
back if you can come up to work that weekend.
If you are new to this site and you are interested in helping out please PM me or email me at:

Thanks Ed!
Like I said in our phone conversation it doesn't have to be a large crew. We will be working on the
Buckeye Trail. The FS has approved the work.
