Febuary Hike
Ok.. no one wants to man up, I will do it. We need a date for the Team that was formally known as Team B but now are known as Trail Sompers, Febuary Kick butt hike. Any takers? And we need a location. I vote for doing the OHT section 3 on Feb 20-23. Thats a Fri, Sat and Sun. Anyone else want to chime in?

Re: Febuary Hike
I will probably go pending any of the normal breaking away problems. Preacha and I were planning that either section 1 or 3 for this weekend until the ice storm hit. The plan I had worked up was for a two day trip. Meet up at Redding (located on the Mulberry between both trail heads) campground the night before and camp out. I only live an hour away so the first one there with myself can set up shuttles. Head out the next morning from Cherry Bend. Hike to Herods creek day one. 10.8 miles. Finish the second day to Lick Creek 8.8 miles.

ANY YOU DIDNT INVITE ME... damn.. guess I am going to have to start telling off on Preacha. Well if I come up we can park a car at each end rather than a shuttle. From what I have seen them things can get expensive. So I should put you don't as a vote for that weekend then?

Re: Febuary Hike
That is what I meant on the shuttle. I guess staging would have been a better term. The campground is about 3 miles in on hwy 215 which spurs off of hwy 23 north of Cass. It is a small forest service campground. It will probably take and hour to stage a vehicle. What Preacha and I had planned was kind of spur of the moment.
Re: Febuary Hike
Speaking of invites...I am going to attempt Richland Creek again this weekend if anyone wants to go.
Re: Febuary Hike
I'm out for the time being fellas. Don't sweat it though; Old Jay will make up his miles later on...
Re: Febuary Hike
TM, Those dates sound good for me so far. I was really looking forward to getting out this weekend, but alas I had to clean up. Time for me to get busy and finish all my chores so I can go play
Re: Febuary Hike
Good to hear it Preacha. Hey have you done this section? How is the creek crossings? Do we need to prepare for some wet crossings? An is water plentiful?

Re: Febuary Hike
My wife tells me that I have a Daddy Daughter Girl Scout Dance on the 21st. So I am out for those dates I am really going to push my wife to "allow" me to the Eagle Rock Loop the 26-28. I might get a better chance if I leave the 25th after Church, and hike all day te 26th and 27th. I have a lot of work to get done around here and the Church before I can go anywhere though. Hmmmmm. . . . Does clearing brush at my house and the Church count as trail maintenance???????? If so I have a lot of hours Have fun without me next weekend

Re: Febuary Hike
Amanda just reminded me that I promised her the 27th and 28th, so that she can go on a trip. So February is all closed for me now.
Re: Febuary Hike
Dwight,
When ever you want to come south just let me know. I would love to go out with you, different teams but what the heck! This is supposed to be for fun anyway! One thing though, I will go at a slower pace. Could give you a grand tour of Caney Creek, or do the Loop.

Re: Febuary Hike
Sounds great to me, I am use to hiking slower with my son. He actually told me since it was nice outside today, it was time for us to go hiking, but we had to go somewhere faraway. I guess he is tired of going to the Butterfield.
Re: Febuary Hike
We will be going back into Caney some time next week to do more work. By time you come down we might have it all clear! This is a place were you hike trail or go crosscounty easily. Ask ED! He is sold on this place. I know I know I am the voice in the wilderness!
Can you tell I love this place? The East part of the trail is heavily used. The West were we are working now sees little hiking pressure.

Do you think that the FS will let me set up a mailbox at the trail head?

Re: Febuary Hike
Ed,
Nope don't think they will let you do that! I am like you I could live back in that area! And as far as getting back in there this week I don't know if we (Janet and I) will make it in or not. Will be working on our sections of the OT, shouldn't be to bad from what the FS told me. Plan on helping Mark Davis on his section and Susan Bates on her section of the OT. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to be on the trail, any trail, all week! I love being out of school!
