When're We Tripping?
Guess I'll get it started, when is the fist group hike going to be? There were a few places thrown out at Hickerfest. So, lets start figuring out when and where we're going. I personally am up for any time as long as I have a week or two worth of notice. My goal is to do something every month, but I know that I won't always be able to do this, and neither will everyone else. But lets start throwing out some days and locations.

Kyle:
Lew and I had mentioned doing the whole BRT in 3 days sometime in October, probably 10/18, 10,19, and 10,20.
I'd be open to doing something the latter part of September. Maybe Eagle Rock Loop or something like that.
You and I had mentioned Shores Lake Loop. That might be a good overnight trip to get everyone back into the pace.

Re: When're We Tripping?
Those all sound awesome. And I'll be honest, I was also wanting to see is we could throw something together before it gets real hot here in the next few weeks. I know this might not be possible, but I've got some gear that I don't know if I can wait til sept to try out. Just a thought. Let me know if anyone is in, I'm up to go anywhere.
Re: When're We Tripping?
I'd be open to an overnight trip, like the Butterfield or something like that. Even Shores Lake Loop might not be too bad this time of year.

Re: When're We Tripping?
Whenever it will fit into your schedule (and whoever else wants to go) let me know, and lets do it.

Kyle:
Just checked my work schedule and the first available weekend that I have is not going to be until August 16. I thought that I had some free weekends in there somewhere, but I've got to go to Colorado the last week of this month and fill in for a friend of mine who recently had hip replacement surgery and I promised that I would come out and run things for him for a week.
I know you are probably wanting to go before then, so maybe we can go next month.

Re: When're We Tripping?
I can do the Butterfield pretty much anytime other than Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and of course Sundays. I usually go Thursday to Saturday, and just relax one day on the trail. Just let me know.

Re: When're We Tripping?
I am going to hit some trail next weekend somewhere for sure. Haven't decided where yet, but I am getting the bug. I would be up for doing the butterfield then.
As for Eagle Rock Loop, I will be doing it possibly the first weekend of October. I am going to wait it out to see when Lew is doing the BRT (I want to hit that one with them too, but I need to have a weekend between my two trips). Anyone is welcome to join me on my trip to ERL. As soon as Lew and UL decide a time for theirs, I will solidify mine as well.

Re: When're We Tripping?
When are we going to these places. They all sound good to me. I can do any weekend. Maybe get off one friday if I have enough notice.
Re: When're We Tripping?
Like I said, if anyone else wants to hit Butterfield next weekend (11th - 12th) I am game. I have never been there. Isn't it like 14 miles? I could even get there on Friday afternoon of that weekend if need be.
Re: When're We Tripping?
The Butterfield is about 15.5 miles long. I've got to be in Kansas next weekend or I'd be going.
Maybe I can make the next one.

Re: When're We Tripping?
Oops... I actually originally meant 12th - 13th, but like i said I could get there Friday late afternoon and do it... Since it is almost 4 hours away from me I would probably not be able to be there until 5 or 6 on Friday. Would make for a full day on Saturday, but not that big of a deal.
Re: When're We Tripping?
Hmmm... No one interested in doing the Butterfield this weekend? Or Shores Lake?
Re: When're We Tripping?
I'm trying to make sure that I have the money to go. Kinda tight right now with paying off the credit card. I'll let you know soon, I promise!
Re: When're We Tripping?
I can't this weekend but I can maybe the next weekend 12th and 13th.

Re: When're We Tripping?
Sorry I have family coming up for the 4th. Or else that would sound great for me.
Re: When're We Tripping?
I am definately out this weekend too. I have to go to the in-laws for a couple of days.
Re: When're We Tripping?
I may not be available for the whole trip on the 12th but I could catch up on Friday night, camp and visit and come back Sat. for other commitments.
Water Hike
An interesting trip I did a couple of years ago was an overnight hike/swim on the Buffalo River from Kyles to Steel Creek. The river was very low so it didn't matter that we were going upstream.
The idea was to stay off the chigger and tick infested trails and to mostly wade the riverbed and swim through the pools too deep to wade. Most of us lined lightweight packs with heavy trash bags so they'd actually float. One could hang on to the floating pack and swim pretty well. Some in our group chose to float their pack on a Therm-a-Rest. Of course we had minimal gear as not much is needed in the summer.
We saw a few snakes but all told it was a pretty cool and unusual trip.

Owl:
That sounds like a great trip. Definitely an alternative to a hot and bug infested trail.
It's also great to see you posting on the site. I've read some of your posts on backpacker.com and really enjoyed them.
Hope you'll post more often,
UL
