2009 Gear Wish List
Just curious what is on everyone's gear wish list for this year. My big thing this year will be Thermarest's new NeoPad. What's on your list?

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
The Thermarest is prob the only big thing that I will look for. I will be doing TONS more DIY. And with my never ending search for the perfect water filter hahahaha. That and still refining my cook set that I carry. Got a couple of DIY projects for that as well.

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
Well I am looking for a good, as in cheap I hope, wind shirt. I am checking out the sales. This is going to be a slim year for me as far as purchases go. I just want to get out more often.

OH,
Marmot and Golite both have good offerings for windshirts. I like the marmot a little better though.

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
UL,
Thanks for the link. I checked it out and that is what I am looking for but they only have size small still available. Sorry I am quite a good bit larger than that! I have looked at the driclime shirts. Any other ideas guys? The price of the shirt that you listed is in my price range.
Thanks,
OH

OH:
Google Sierra Designs Microlight jacket and look at the ones for sale at Sun & Ski Sports. (Sorry, couldn't get the link to work). They have several in different colors and sizes. A very good jacket at an excellent price.

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
My main goal is to get a lighter sleeping bag and tent.
That will wipe out my spending budget for 2009!

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
I will not be making many purchases this year but I will be doing more experimenting with what I have.
Such as tarp setups and such.

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
My list includes a lighter sleeping bag and pad (will get the Thermarest NeoPad) and a set of Leki Poles.
Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
My only real wish is for Amanda to make me a down quilt set. I am fine with the CLimashield XP quilts that I have now, they are just bulky. Since I only get to spend 3 nights out at most, I really do not need much. Since my tiny I-pod was stolen in March, that is going on my wish list (I had the bible on there, and made it easy to "read" while I was relaxing in my hammock). All in all I'm good.
Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
Ul.. the only thing my cook set really includes is a cozy and a boiling pot. The pot itself is what I am looking to expand. The one I have is currently a SS .5 litter kettle. I love it but its a little heavy and small. I find myself constantly having to boil more water, cooking, heating, purify ect. I am looking for about a 1 litter. I am exploring, and have prototyped a 32oz beer can kettle and I think it will be fine and light. Just have a few quirks that I need to iron out and I belive I will be happy with it. Guess the only real thing would be to lenthen my spork handle lol. My cozy works better than ANYONE expected. Its a peice of reflex that I simply sewed to make like a envolope. Slide the freezer bag in then add water. 10 min later eat. Not much simpler than that. lol

Here's the answer to your, um, short spoon:

Just curious how many 32 oz beer cans you've had to work through in your quest for the right kettle?

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
What's the brand of beer that has a 32 oz. can? I thought the Heineken 24 oz. was the biggest can? Course, like you, I'm not into beer, so my knowledge is limited.

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
lol... its fun but dont drink the crap.. The hardest thing is I am trying to add some kind of spout but havnt figured it out yet. Have tryed to add one with all sorts of epoxies and even thermal adhesives and have yet to find anyway or thing I like. Also the Beer Can is nice and light but its tall and narrow. If we could find a Short and Fat it would be better.

Re: 2009 Gear Wish List
I think a lightweight sleeping bag (20 deg) is the main thing on my list. Also probably some fabrics so that I can try to continue getting better making backpacks, tarps, and the like. Might get a good base layer, and oh yeah, getting some of the good, lightweight wool stuff off of BPL. That's it....for now.

Found these. You can buy one or a box of four. I know its not a DIY thing, but it does sound like it fits the bill.
