I am game. I may be going to do a 3 day upper Buffalo trip this weekend. I think that I can get away with both trips.

The Richland Creek trip had no iternerary. I was thinking of just going into the Wilderness area and wandering around. I have a topo for the area. I may base camp and day hike. If anyone wants to go thay are welcome.

Sorry for the limited contact of late, Jim. My schedule has sufficiently expanded itself to allow for little wiggle room, but I'm trying to get my priorities where I want 'em. Wink

Shoot me an e-mail and we can get something together.

I was talking about Jan. Does anyone know if the road up to Richland campground has reopened?

I was there for 3 days at the end of october and they were not even close to starting any type of cleanup. I called the rangers and they did not even have an estimate. They told me the campground was closed. My friend and I went anyway (we were not going to use the campground anyway) We came in from the opposite direction, crossed the bridge near the campground... drove around through the campground and back out. We parked just across the bridge off the road and hiked in through the campground (which was deserted). Only people we saw the whole time was a government guy standing in the creek at the bridge( north side bridge) measuring the flow of the creek. He paid us no attention much and even told us we picked some great weather for hiking and to have fun. Then near richland falls we ran into a father/son from Missouri who had driven not knowing about the landslide... so when they could go no further, they parked at the landslide and hiked in (2 miles or more ) to the campground and on through. I would recommend coming in from the north as we did because I would not want to hike out knowing I had an extra 2 or 3 miles before I could see my truck again. I highly doubt the landslide has been cleared and the road repaired... but I could be wrong. Good luck, If you make it, you should have the whole wilderness to yourselves.

I am going to have to raincheck the Richland creek trip this weekend. The flu has struck our house hold and I need to stay around.

sorry bout the flu yuch

info I have heard is that opening the road would simply leave it ready for more hill to slide down. A major project to actually repair which is not in the county or usfs budget. The north roads are open but the campground is "officially" closed. I think the bridge had damage that was repaired.

I saw that the USFS was not going to repair it after I posted. They said the hill is still moving and it is not even safe to climb over the pile.

Just to let you all know the campgrounds are still closed. I was going to take my little nieces (4&16) and nephew (5) camping there this past weekend, but didn't think about checking on here first. There are plenty of places to camp though. ( As you all know I am sure.) Nice to have read the thread, and find out how come they haven't/ can't fix the situation. Thanks for the info. Happy camping everyone.

I'm looking at doing this section of the OHT around the first of the year. Anyone been through the wilderness lately? I've done section 5 and now I'm looking for my next section.
