Lake Wedington
Does anyone have any recent information on this trail? I hiked it about three years ago and really enjoyed it, even though it doesn't seem to be one of the more popular trails. I took a couple of friends on it this past June and had to turn back after about two miles. Seems that, at that time, the trail was still torn up from the 2009 ice storm.
It has been almost a year since I've even looked at it. Is it still in bad shape?

Re: Lake Wedington
Last time that I heard, all of Wedington was still closed, but I know a lot of people still go there. I live about 15 minutes from there, but I have never done the trail. I have never found much information or maps on it, other than it is a 15 mile trail (7.5 X 2). I would be willing to try it with you here in a month or two, and if need be, we can see what we would need to do with the forestry dept. to help clean it up.
Re: Lake Wedington
I don't remember seeing anything back in June at the trailhead that indicated it was closed - but I can definitely see how it should have been. After about the first mile, we were weaving through deadfall and bushwhacking through summer growth. Lost the trail shortly after that first spring and decided to call it a good try. Had The General with us on what would've been his first overnight hike (he was 9 at the time, I think) and didn't want to push it.

Re: Lake Wedington
if you're talking about the twin mountain's trail, its open and ready to be blazed. the condition of it is fine, but once you start getting towards the back mile or two it can get a bit iffy.. maybe the forestry guys have cleaned it up by now? However, the scheduled forest burn is set for the end of may i do believe, so if you headed out after that it should be clear of any brush or downed trees. Also, if you want to cut out the crappy first mile or two, drive down to the first dirt road on your right (called tower lookout road) and keep an eye out for blue markers on your left. you can easily knock out 2 or 3 hours of the hike and get to the really good stuff. Best of luck!
