Lake Weddington Trail
Has anyone here hiked/camped the Lake Weddington trail? I've been out there to the lake a time or two and used to frequent the makeshift shooting range (years ago) but have never hike the trail.
What are the trail conditions, water sources and campsites like? I'm wanting to get out on some short overnighters that are close to me and Weddington is about 20-30 minutes from me. Butterfield loop is on my short list as well (let you know when I get it planned Preacha).
Thanks,
Jason

Re: Lake Weddington Trail
I have always wondered about it too, I have been to Weddington Lake several times, but always to fish, not to hike. I do not even know where the trail head is. I have heard that it is 15 miles, and is kinda 7.5 miles to one dead end, and then 7.5 miles back. Maybe you and I need to try it out together, that way if we get lost we can blame it on each other .

Sounds like a plan Dwight! How's the fishing on the lake? I went out there one time but all we caught were weeds!
The trail head is just west of the park entrance on the north side of 16. It's not really a loop...it's a there and back. The trail ends at a primitive camp on the banks of the Illinois River. It's amazing how close to 412 it is. Hopefully there's be no road noise.
