Backpacking Plans For 2009!
Wondering what everyone's backpacking plans are for 2009. My goal is to do at least one 2-3 day backpacking trip per month this year. Even going to try and go during the summer months, if I can find a cool (Temps) place to go. I've got one big backpacking trip planned for August, if things work out.
Let us know what your plans are.

UL,
Heck my plans are to just be able to get out and hike! This has been a slow road to recover with my knee and such. I actually want to hike everything close to me. That is the ERL and all of the Caney Trails. Not actually hiking but my main goal is to get Caney Creek clear! Other than that I would like to get out on the OT more.

Mine are to go as much as possible. I looked at the Lake Fayetteville Trail yesterday and it is 5.5 miles. 1.5 miles is paved across the dam and the piers, but the other 4 miles is a trail that loops all the way around the lake. I plan on doing this trail more, at least once a week, and do 1-3 night trip at least once a month. I am shooting for 200 miles this year, but I may have to bump it up and make new goals as I pass the ones I already set.

I'm looking to do at least an overnighter once a month. Lots of day hikes.
And one long trip. I'm shooting for 7 days. Not sure where yet.

Re: Backpacking Plans For 2009!
My beautiful bride leads a hiking group through her church so I am scheduled for a day hike once a month until the summer heat puts a halt to that. A number of people who make the hikes are not members of the church and she will put anybody who wants on her email list so you can be notified of upcoming events. She will probably put in a float or two on the Buffalo this summer. We are in the planning stages of a multi day on the BRT in the near future. I’m not sure how many will be making this trip with us. Right now there are three for sure. I really want to do a full length paddle and hike on the Buff this year. We are also planning a three week trip to India this summer. I hope to get some hikes in between all the other stuff we have scheduled. I also hope to get several paddles and day hikes with the grandkids this year. I have to take them someplace that has climbing opportunities for the rock monkeys to play on.

Hey UL - this is James, from a portion of the ERL with you and Lew and Bostonmtnman recently. I'm looking to get out more in 2009. I added up my miles hiked per year, and the trend isn't pretty:
2005: 101 miles
2006: 56 miles
2007: 45 miles
2008: 30 miles
2009: more than 2008. By 2012, I want the graph of miles-over-time to be a big smile
To that end, I'd like to do a nice overnighter in early Feb. Maybe section 1 of the OHT since the trail moved. Let me know y'alls plans and maybe I can tag along.

HH:
Great to see you join the board. We were so glad to have you join us on the ERL. It made the trip just that much better.
Man, we have to do something about your annual mileage. LOL!! Hopefully, you'll be able to join us more for some of the trips that we've been talking about doing this year. We will definitely keep you up to date as to what we're planning on doing.
Again, glad to have you aboard.
