Yesterdays question.......today
What is the heaviest item in you pack?
I know that water is probably the heaviest in most cases, so let's exclude that and mention it if it actualy is not. Maybe could include total pack weight also.
The heaviest item in my pack is my tent at just over 6 lbs.
Total pack weight is recently (yesterday) down to 31 lbs.

Re: Yesterdays question.......today
The heaviest thing in my pack (if not using a tent) is probably my sleeping bag. Depending on which one I carry, its either 1lb or 2lb 5oz. If I'm tent camping, that's usually the heaviest, between 2 and 3 pounds. Also, strangely enough, my pack is pretty heavy too. The two I usually alternate between are both over a pound (I think; haven't gotten around to weighing them). I've got to get a new, lighter pack (probably one from Gossamer Gear). Anyway, those are the heaviest things I carry.
Oh yeah, I've gotten quite a bit of new gear since my last trip, so I can't say for sure what my "normal" pack weight would be. I'll work on that one.

Ed,
I would have to say the heavy item in my pack would be my tent when I use it. As in a previous post I have a 3 man REI T3 Quarterdome tent. The reason for the 3 man is that when we take the grandkids we need more room. It is around 5 lbs. or less and can be used with the fly with the footprint but I haven't weighed that yet. Another big heavy for me is food. I still haven't figured out the right combo for food. I usually bring to much.

Like most of the others, if my wife goes with me, then I carry a Double Rainbow tarptent that weighs 2.5 lbs. Otherwise, it would have to be my sleeping bags. Depending on the time of year, I either carry a 21 oz. bag or a 38 oz. bag.

Re: Yesterdays question.......today
Hmm. . . That is a hard one. My pack weighs 20oz., my top quilt weighs 18oz., and my hammock with suspension weighs 16oz, and my 10x12 Cat tarp weighs 18oz I think. So my pack weighs the most at one and a quarter pound. Really excluding water, starting out, food is my single heaviest item(s).
Re: Yesterdays question.......today
So you are at 4 and1/2 pounds before water and food. That is impressive.
and 2 liters of water is 5 or 6 pounds
for a total of 9 or 10 pounds,wow

If it is really cold, I take another quilt that goes under my hammock, and it weighs 1 pound. My cook set is light as well. MSR pocketrocket, Snowpeak Ti bowl set, light my fire spork, and a 4oz canister of MSR fuel. I think it weighs a pound all together as well. So with my cook set, extra underquilt, firstaide, gravity filter and socks, I would say I am always under 10 pounds. (UL probably has me beat though )
