Map site?
In their infinite wisdom, Mapquest does not show streams on their maps. I am sure this is fine for getting to downtown Mt Ida, but.... Are there other sites I could use that would show streams. This kinda popped up as I was doing a map page to show some waterfalls from another post. Just a flag in an empty area without the streams??? Also need it to search by coordinates.

I like Google maps. They have good satellite imagery, so they might show it, but I don't know for sure Clif. You might try some online TOPO maps. Ouachitamaps.com might be a good place to start.

I always use www.mytopo.com when I'm wanting to build a custom map that I want to have printed. It can search by coordinates and has a lot of other options worth looking at.
If you're just wanting to link to a certain map area, then google maps works great.

Re: Map site?
Clif,
I use the usgs.gov website for all of my topos.
http://store.usgs.gov/b2c_usgs/usgs/maplocator/(xcm=r3standardpitrex_prd&layout=6_1_61_48&uiarea=2&ctype=areaDetails&carea=%24ROOT)/.do
The geopdf tool bar can be downloaded from the bottom of the link I sent you. You can download pdf maps and use the geo tool bar to find coordinates and map routes. I have checked the accuracy of the coordinates with a gps and they are sufficient for bushwhacking.

Re: Map site?
Has anyone used the National geographic waterproof map printer paper. It is supposed to be the same paper that they use on thier trail maps. I question how well it would work with an inkjet printer?

Re: Map site?
I have a topo program in my home computer. I was talking more about sending someone a map of someplace in the boonies on a page like this.. more of a link. I guess. My topo program will save as a picture if I want to email it to some one.
That sed, this is good info.

If you go to www.mytopo.com, you can search by nearby town, or exact coordinates. Just below the picture of the map, it will give you the coordinates of your cursor. Once you find the specific area you want, you can send a link to that map by selecting that option below the coordinates.
Worth a look and hope that helps,

UL, That is a really great site, I used it to see the terrain of some land that Amanda and I hope to buy this Spring. I like how you can zoom in and out, and really set it up for what you need. Thanks for the link.

Topo Maps
I too use the USGS Store, download topo maps, and print them.
The only thing to note is that Mapcoat products that waterproof your maps do not work with anything printed on an ink-jet. The FAQ's on their website say it causes the ink on the map to run.
I've not tried it, but that wouldn't be good.
