I just found this site a few minutes ago and thought I would say hello. I have been wanting to go backpacking for a long time now and finally got to go for my first time just a few weeks ago on the BRT. I took my nephew with me (age 12) and the original plan was to start at Erbie and work our way towards Kyles Landing and then backtrack to Erbie where the truck was parked. I had planned on us camping out for three nights, but due to the heat, the lack of my nephew drinking enough water and getting sick at camp, our trip only lasted one night. We made it approx three miles on the trail before we had to setup camp. We turned around the next day and headed back to the truck. I wasn't sure how my nephew was going to hold up hiking before we went, so this was an experiment trip for us. I'm planning on going back to the BRT in the fall, never again going in June, it was a little hot and the ticks were unbearable. Here are the pictures from my trip:

Hey.. Glock36.. let me be the first to welcome you to the board. I think you will find that most everyone here agrees that the Buffalo is that special place... lol. Also it is the general thought that no way for doing a June hike below treeline.. lol. Hope you had some fun though. I see you did make it to parker hickman home, thats always a nice place to be. Hope to see more of you here.

Eric,

Hi, Tom here in Dierks. Good to see you here. As far as summer hiking I don't do it any more.
I much prefer fall, winter, and early spring. Any way the BRT is a very nice trail. I keep to the
Southern Ouachitas mainly because of the price of fuel.

Hey Glock 36, I am new here as well, just signed up today. I have hiked here in June, but I made sure that I had plenty of water. I am with most everyone here though, I prefer the fall and spring though. Welcome here, and I have found out on forums to ask anything, people are generally always ready to help.

glock36:
Welcome to the board. Sorry your BRT trip was cut short. June, July, and August are tough months to hike here. Heat and humidity are definitely worth respecting. Glad you guys made it out ok.
Again, welcome!

Welcome to the sight man. Hiking in the summer is definately only for a chosen few. You really gotta go lite to pull if your gonna pull it off. I tend to only carry a day pack on my summer weekenders. I LOVE the Buffalo, I have hiked all over the country and the Buffalo is just as special as any. Definately make it back there in the fall there is alot to see. I am doing 25 miles on July 12th and 13th and can't wait. Fortunately ticks don't like me and I love the heat. You have found a good site here and again welcome.
