Book? Empty Book?

Post by willky1 Mon May 19, 2008 4:53 pm

Does anyone know of a good and comprehensive book on navigation? I want to brush up on my own skills, and learn everything I can about it. I have been thinking about it due to some recent posts, and I have convienced my self that I need to get deep into it. Like I said, I want a comprenhensive book on this, because I like to read all I can on a topic, and then go do it myself. Thanks guys!

"Be Expert with Map and Compass" by Björn Kjellström is a staple book in this field. I used to have a copy years ago and now want a new one! It is at REI, but quite a bit cheaper on Amazon.

Be sure and let us know how you like it Seekingfun. I'm a bookworm too and I'd love to have a good exhaustive resource on navigation.

Well... I got so much going on. It may take a WHILE for me to actually get to read it. I to am notorious for reading Kyle, mostly How-tos and other such books.

I've got the book that Colt mentioned and TM ordered. It is a very good book for learning navigation.

Wilderness Navigation:Finding Your Way Using Map, Compass, Altimeter, and GPS is another good book.

http://www.amazon.com/Wilderness-Navigation-Finding-Compass-Altimeter/dp/0898866294

There is also a good series of videos on navigation from wildernessoutfitters on you-tube. Its a 9 or 10-part series and most of it is pretty good. He mis-speaks a few times, but usually corrects himself. Great refreasher! Here's one of the first ones:

Hope these help,
