Hike or Bike? Empty Hike or Bike?

Post by willky1 Wed May 07, 2008 12:55 pm

Is this trail very hiker-friendly? Having worked at a bike shop a year or so ago, I've heard of a lot of mountain bikers loving this place, but what about hikers? Is it swamped by bike traffic like I imagine it being? What are some of the highlights of the trail, and in the other post on here I saw something about Tim Ernst while I was skimming it. Which book does he talk about the Womble in? Thanks and sorry for so many questions.

I have never been to the Womble, but it is in Tim's book, "Arkansas Hiking Trails" page 143. 39.5 miles one way.

Wow, I have that book. Guess I have just haven't seen it. I'll have to check it out, but my question still stands. Has anyone been hiking on this trail, and is it over ran by mountain bikers?

If there is not a race or a event scheduled it should'nt be crowded. We camped at Fulton Branch three weeks ago, which is near a trailhead off of Highway 298 and I saw no trucks there all weekend. We were in and out paddling at Dragover.

On nice days, there is a good chance you will see a bike or two, but you won't see too many.
