Re: Interesting wx coming
I was thinking the same thing tonight. I am in Central Oklahoma right now, and it is storming bad here. We are coming home tomorrow around noon, and I know I wouldn't want to be out in this tonight. I know that my tarp would keep me dry and the wind off me, and that my quilts would keep me warm, but its the hiking back out part that I would not like

Talked to my son last night, he was driving a fuel truck from Antlers OK back to OK city and he said that they were supposed to get between 8 to 12 in. of snow!

Ch 7 out of Little Rock is saying this system will drop record setting snow for NW AR.
I don't expect much to stick here but I wonder about the higher elev. like on the ERL.

Well we here in Memphis had a deepest snow in history the last day of March. It was like 18 inches on the ground back in mid 60's. Guess it ain't over till the fat lady sings lol.

Re: Interesting wx coming
March typically will bring the deepest snows of the year so that is nothing unusual. But generally they tend to over-predict the weather too so I would not count your bowls of ice cream until the snow piles up! The moisture would be great no matter how much or what form it takes - things are really dry out there right now and we need a lot of moisture. And it would clear the air too and keep the the government from burning down the forest for a few days. Hiking in the snow is one of the very best experiences you can have anyway, so I hope we get a good shot of it...

Well we ended up with a dusting of snow. The trees are coated in the white stuff. Kinda neat considering it is at the end of March!

To quote my wife "that's not fair!". Some light snow here but the temp is 35 degrees. Most is melting.

Nothing to speak of in Little Rock except some drizzle. Wal-mart was about 95 degrees today... they told me the main office in Bentonville controls their heat and it is snowing there.

Re: Interesting wx coming
Better get those snowshoes out quick. We had 9" on the ground yesterday morning and it's now completly gone.

Re: Interesting wx coming
we still had some unmelted snow today in Fudville - going to Fishtrap tomorrow in hopes the melt gives up some water...
Re: Interesting wx coming
I can validate that the ERL received around 1/2" of snow Sunday morning after what felt like about 3" of rain during the day Saturday. Our group of 13 had a few less than prepared folks so we bailed out at the Falls TH and sent our fastest hikers on ahead to AP to fetch the van. Fortunately, we were able to double up a couple of tents Saturday night and keep everyone warm enough. The experience made the after trail meal at Crackerbarrel even more enjoyable. Surprisingly, my team overall was satisfied with their experience on the trail.

Cliff,
I was thinking about your group that weekend. Glad all went well. I hiked in to the Winding Stairs from AP with my grand daughter and the little mo was still a bit up.

Hard Fast Rule: There are no bad days on the ERL. Some are just a little better than others.

The water from the melt actually had the Buffalo up to about 3" airspace around 10AM
some people out floating and a few trees budding really made spring's arrival more set in stone...
