Father/daughter trip on Lil Missouri trail
My 10 year old and I just got back from our 2nd annual spring break backpack trip down on the Lil Missouri trail. I sure hope I can keep this tradition going when she gets a little older and into things that dads aren't all that fond of!
We were planning on trying the ERL, but I quickly realized she would enjoy the trip more if we weren't pressured to pound out the miles. So, we decided to head down around Winding Stairs for a few days and maybe get up on Eagle Rock vista and then head back the way we came.
First camp at Winding Stairs was very scenic.
Here is what the Lil Mo looks like to a 10 year old when it's showing 3.5 feet at Langley. She had no trouble with the crossings.
We had time to do a lot of exploring. Here's a little falls off a side creek.
I saw a coffee thread on here last week and have to give a +1 to the Starbucks Via. it's good stuff.
Here's the trail mutt.
Unfortunately, we never made the vista. On the third day, we noticed the sole on my daughters boot was coming lose (hand-me-downs from the wife that had lots of miles on them) so we skipped the vista. Good thing as this is what the boot looked like when we got back to AP.
I appreciate all the great advice I got from the forum concerning the river crossings.

Glad you guys had fun. To bad you didn't get to do the vista though.. saves room for next time though.

Awesome trip, it is good to see her out there with you. I wish that I could get my 12 year old daughter to go with me, but she only car camps

Glad you enjoyed this great trail! You were fortunate to have had your spring break when you did.
Arkansas is next week and the weather will be bad I am also going to take my 12 yr. old grand-
daughter on a overnighter. Will probably go into Caney Creek.
