Dwight,
Hopefully we can get together sometime during the Memorial day weekend to talk about it, if now you
have my cell number just give me a call or email me.

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Looking like my yo-yo will be June 11 - 16 so if the date slips on this trip let me know and I'll look for you guys on the trail. I will be doing 10 miles / day and think I'll start at Albert Pike going clockwise the first yo and then counterclockwise the second yo. I will also hike down that dab gum sleeping bag and pillow if Preacher doesn't beat me to it. Also plan on doing some detailed photography and videography of the ERL and eventually creating an interactive website much like my GC rim-to-rim, but maybe more in-depth. Can't wait to get back on the trail!
Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
I think I'm good for the 4th-6th. Where are we gonna start from and which direction we gonna do it in? I really don't care, but I would like to do it counterclockwise sometime just for a change.

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Why dont we meet in the parking lot at Albert Pike, work counter clockwise up the Little Missouri! Maybe meet around 12 ish and hike until we get to the campground at Long Creek. Red and I stayed at this campground last trip.

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Dwight,
I really don't have any preference. We can hike clockwise or counter closckwise. My initial thought would be to go counter from Albert Pike, stay at the top section of the Little Missouri for the first night. Hit the mountains the second day and stay on top of Eagle Rock the second night and then hike back out to Albert Pike. We can easily switch routes and stay on Eagle Rock the first night. What's your preference?

Mark,
That would be an excellent plan. WE can camp on top of Eagle Rock Saturday night and then hike out to winding stairs on Sunday.

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
So I haven't exactly been following the thread b/c I've been busy with work lately.
I'll probably be able to get out of here about 2 on friday, so where do I need to go and who am I meeting up with?

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
I'll be at Winding Stair Trailhead on 106 between 8 & 9am. I was planning on doing a loop hike by walking on the road to it's intersection with the ABF. But I'm open to other suggestions. I was planning on meeting the guys near Dwight's truck around lunch.

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
I am definitely OUT for this trip. I am not a hot weather backpacker. With temps predicted for the next weekend of at least 100 degrees I plan on staying home! You
guys can have all of the fun!

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Relic, we are going to hike counter clockwise from Albert Pike parking lot. You can plan on meeting us around noon in Albert Pike and we will head up the Little Missouri. Looks like there is going to be warm days and warm nights. Bring plenty of electro lights! I will pack some extra for you UL's

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Even though I consider myself an UL, I bring my own electrolights Amanda found me some THERMOTABS behind the counter at Walgreens for runners. They cost $6 for 100 tabs and work really well. That and drink mixes and we should all be set. Since the weather will be so warm, my pack will weigh almost nothing, like a glorified day pack
Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
I can't get there till Saturday, that's why my itinerary looks odd.

David,
Glad you found the place that the real backpackers hang out! Search around and you will learn a lot about places and equipment and so much more. Glad to see you are going this weekend. Stay cool!

By the way guys David (jazzydave) helped out this past weekend working in the Winding Stars section of the ERL. He is also fairly new to Arkansas so he is still
learning the places to go.
A great guy!

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Hey Dave,
Welcome to the site, it was great to meet you the other day. If you plan on hiking with me on Thursday, my neighbor and I are leaving from the FR106 parking lot on Blaylock Creek. It is around another 6 miles from where we meet last Saturday (down the same road). If you are hiking on Friday, then just meet us at Albert Pike at noon. I will give you a call tomorrow afternoon when my day settles down
Here is a link to a free map of the trail that you may want to print off. http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/ouachita/maps/documents/TR-36DET_Eagle_Rock_Loop_005.pdf It will also help to show you where the parking spots are. See you soon,

Re: 2nd annual tristate solo group hike
Well, my neighbor boy just got called into work and cannot come That means instead of leaving tonight after church, I will wake up around 5am and drive on down in the morning. I will get to FR 106 Blaylock Creek around 9am, and then start hiking up Brushheap
My plans are to spend Thursday night across the river at winding stair, or to stay around the winding stair parking lot. I will hike to Albert Pike and be waiting for you guys around noon.
