GPS with built in SPOT system
Is this the only GPS with a built in Spot system on the market? I have been looking around, and waiting on buying a GPS, because I know that Amanda would love the idea of me having the SPOT system on my Solo trips, and it just makes since to have one unit instead of two. This one is due to release in May, but I was wondering if there are other devices available. Does anyone know if Garmin or someone else was thinking about releasing one too?

This actually is two different physical units that are used together - the GPS and the SPOT Communicator. The good thing is that you can type out a message instead of just sending a prefab one like you do with the normal SPOT unit. The SPOT yearly service fee is extra of course, and you are limited to 50 characters for your messages - still, it is an improvement over just the normal SPOT. Great idea, especially if they will ever put them into the same unit, which I assume will arrive at some point in the near future...

I can't wait till things like this become common place. SPOT has the 40/29 news link of Ed Cooley using his SPOT on their website. It definitely saved his life that night.

I have te Delorme PN-40 GPS. Its capabilities are right there with the Garmin 60csx with the added ability to download aerial photos and overlay them on the topo maps. I would bet that SPOT and Delorme did a marketing agreement between them. May be awhile before it rolls out to other brands.
