Eagle Rock Empty Eagle Rock

Post by David Holthus Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:48 am

I plan on hiking from B23F off Shady Lake Road over Big Tom Mountain, crossing Viles Branch creek and then up to Eagle Rock in the near future. If anyone has information on the trail condition I would appreciate a post. I have hiked to Spirit Rock in the past and also to Brush Heap Mountain from FR25, the trail to Spirit Rock was not grown up to bad but the spur to Brush Heap had no trail anymore and Rocky and I were a little bloody when we got back to the main trail, the briars were bad.

I haven't been on the trail but I was over by Shady lake and to the Caney Creek and Buckeye Trail heads last week end and the roads are rough in spots due to the recent flooding. Some low water bridges have a lot of gravel washed up. Take it slow on the roads. The trails that I was on was in good shape.

Eagle Rock Empty Thanks

Post by David Holthus Fri Apr 18, 2008 10:23 am

Thanks for the info. I'm headed to the Ouachita Mountains Friday afternoon with the kayaks and hiking boots loaded up with no soild plans. The upper Ouachita River has water, Dierks is running and it's going to be a sunny day Saturday for hiking. If I make it by Dierks I'll stop and say hello.

David,

There is still plenty of water up here. As of this morning the Corps. was still releasing plenty of water out
of Dierks Lake. Right now I will be around Sat. Will be gone this afternoon and night to Ashdown with my
students for a solo and ens. contest. Should be back in town by 9:00pm. If you have a chance to swing by please do so. I really want to get out by I feel like I need to catch up on my grad studies.
