Greetings, we are a family of five with children and in need of some advice. Primitive camping is in our soul, however, we do have alot of gear to carry. Therefore, where would you reccomend we go, (that is anywhere within a two hour time radius of Rogers, AR) for a camping-hiking-fishing-and-tents-are-near-a-body-of-water-experience? We would love to go to richland creek, however, From what I have researched it's closed and in bad shape if you can get to it...I also have researched "Hurrican Creek area wilderness, as well? Thank you for your time and wisdom, Loves:)

Welcome
Hurricane creek may be a little rugged to access with alot of gear. The eastern end is two miles in to the creek and is a fairly steep climb out. The western end is close to 5 miles in with a steep climb out. (The five miles was a guess) The Buffalo River offers all of the things you are looking for in a camping experience. The Mulberry river offers a couple of nice camp camping areas. They are Redding and Wolf Pen camp grounds.

I think that everyone on the site would agree that Tim Ernst guide books would be a prime planning resource. www.cloudland.net.

Simplyonpc,

Shores lake in the White rock area south of you, offers some nice hiking trails ( Shores lake loop) and car camping.

The Redding camp ground on the Mulberry has Spy Rock Loop across the road.

Devil's Den State Park and the Butterfield Trail are within an hour's drive of you and offers some good trails and fishing. I also second the Buffalo River and its campgrounds around Steel Creek, Kyle's Landing, Erbie, Ozark, and Pruitt. They all offer great camping, trail access, and fishing.

It is a short hop into the Hurricane Wilderness from the Chancel Trailhead.
