Will be out of touch for awile..

Guys,

I will be out of it for awile. Out of school this week and have this planned:

1) Check and clear our sections of the OT on Rich Mountain. 3 miles one way
In and out 6 miles.
2) Help Susan Bates on her section of the OT in OK. From Kiamichi Trail head
to the top of Winton Mountain (last I was on this trail was back in the late
70's) 2.5 miles one way but we will have to back track total 5 miles.
3) Stay at Mark Davis cabin and get up early for a long hike in to his section
(a little over 7 miles one way) Total for day will be around 14 miles
will probably back pack in and stay the night.
4) Hike into Caney Creek from the W. Trail head to do some more work at the
1st creek crossing. Total around 5 miles in and out.

Total for the week will be around: 30 miles, trail maintance all the way!
That also holds for outlawpacker.

yep you are probably right on the hospital! More worried about the long hike into Mark Davis section of the OT. Will take it nice and slow for sure.

Well one thing I will like, even with the trail work, is that I will be on some trail that I have never been on before. I was last on the OK section of the OT way back in 1979 I think. I have been from the 270 trail head to the Black Fork Wilderness but not beyond that. So this will be a interesting trip. If I have to drop any of it I will drop the Caney Creek trip. I can get that the next week end.

Don't pay any attention to those goldern wippersnappers. Does anybody know how to spell that.

We just got back a few hours ago. I will put on the site a complete report with pics later on today. We did everything but go into Caney Creek. To tell you the truth I am ready to hang up my loppers for awile! We cleared or help clear 8.5 miles of the OT!
We saw some fantastic county. You guys that keep overlooking the OT should take a second look at this great trail!

It isn't the miles that is tough. It is the hard work you do on the trail, the extra stuff you have to carry plus the water (which both Mark and I ran out of yesterday with 2.5 miles to go) plus the miles. This is tough work! But we love it and we would do it no matter what. Now you guys go and enjoy the OT and Caney Creek! That is a order from ouachita hiker.

P.S. I will put some interesting news under Caney Creek tonight!

Yes it was fun! The only thing that we didn't do was go into Caney Creek. Just as well since the FS has a contract crew in there doing work! I might go in there next week just to see what they have done!

As far as the feet all is fine. After that 11 mile hike yesterday the ball of the right foot hurt but by morning all was fine. By the way my knees didn't hurt. Mark reminded me to flex my legs on the down hills, I had forgotten that, and I had no knee pain at all! I feel great!
