Wilderness Workshop
The Mena office of the FS is working out the details on a Wilderness Work Training session. This is supposed to be hands on training on trail maintance in wilderness areas. In other words we will probably be working in the Caney Creek Wilderness clearing trail (that is if my crew leaves anything to clear!). I will post more details when I get them. I do know this will be hands on class. The possible date as of now is Fri. April 17th and Sat. April 18th. I will be there, anyone else interested?

Re: Wilderness Workshop
That would be great to go to. Thanks for posting OH, I will try to clear my schedule so I can go.
Re: Wilderness Workshop
Dewight,
The date i feel is firm, I will let you and the group know. You could learn some valuable skills. Also this will be trail work so it will count towards the challenge!

I'm in
I definitely would be interested. I'll just be getting back from a week of trail building on the Buffalo River Trail, but I think I can work it in.

Re: Wilderness Workshop
Haha, so much for it being "firm". Sounds like a great time. I think I'll ask for that day off today. Is there any chance of this date changing?
Re: Wilderness Workshop
Kyle,
The date mix up was on my part not the FS. Yes I fessed up! Think I got on the wrong month. In any case sorry for any problems that might have caused. Yes the date is firm. I had wanted to come during my spring break, the last of March and 1st of April but they couldn't get it all together by then. I will be talking to them next week face to face. My understanding is that the dates are firm.

Re: Wilderness Workshop
Here is the latest from the FS. I got this in a email just a short time ago:
We are planning a Primitive Tool Workshop
on April 17 & 18 at the Mena Ranger District Work Center. The
actual place is tentative, it may be at the Polk County Fairgrounds. Anyway,
We would start with lunch on Friday, have classes on the use of tools
and safety when working on trails in the wilderness areas, have hands-on
training and practice on Saturday. More info to follow!

If you want any more details I recomend that you call or email Sharon. She will answer emails.

TM
This is a free clinic! And Mark Davis has offered to put up everyone at his cabin or you can camp there. I can speak from first hand knowledge, he has got one great cabin. Check the pics I just posted and the link to the album. We would probably have to go in on the meals but that shouldn't be no great deal.

Re: Wilderness Workshop
OH.. is there a deadline for regestering or is it kind of a show up? I may be interested but that is kind of far out there for me to be able to tell.

Primitive Tools Workshop (Mena FS)
OK guys here is the latest low down on the workshop:
I called Sharon Hose at the Mena office of the FS. The deadline for registration is April 1st. She is emailing me a copy of the registration. If you want to do this please make your minds now! Or soon that is! I will email you the attachment and you need to get it back to her. Also there will be a meal at noon on the 17th. She says she isn't sure how they are going to handle this. The FS has some funny rules and they aren't supposed to pay for meals but are going to try to have something worked out. By the way the word is going out from not only Mena but also the FS in OK and the State Park service. Right now the number is supposed to be cut of at 25 but she might could addjust that if need be. I will go ahead and send out the form to all that I have email address for.
This will be fun!

Dewight,
Yes it will be fun! Since it will start with a meal at noon it shouldn't be as hard for you guys way off to get here. By the way I just got another email from Sharon and there isn't a registration form made up yet, she says it is a work in progress! As soon as I know something I will let you guys know! By the way you guys will love Marks cabin!
What a view!
