backpacker magazine
Do you get these "buy a mag scrip and help us raise money for our school" thingys from any kids you know? Hate to just say no. So I get one and was noticing backpacker magazine and wondering if it is any good.... worth even part of the money? Any of you read these? Maybe I spend my money on this old house or somethin?

Re: backpacker magazine
I get backpacker magazine and have thought several times about not renewing. It seems like they alternate between cover stories on "Top 100 Life-List Hikes" and "How to Survive Anything". Every once in a while they'll go in depth enough, pick a novel enough topic, or do an interesting enough expose to keep me on the hook. One redeeming factor is their website, which has recently been redesigned to include ALOT of reader submitted material/info. So you can share hikes on there, submit photo albums, etc. It's kinda cool, I guess.

Re: backpacker magazine
I used to get Backpacker Magazine, but like boston, the articles are pretty hit or miss. I did like the gear guide issues. However, they usually have very little UL options in their issues, so it isn't very useful for me to have.
Re: backpacker magazine
I've been getting it for about the last 5 years and, like boston and willky, some issues are better than others. I wish they had some competition in the marketplace, as they would probably have more predictably better articles. But, hey, its better than nothing and it does talk alot about my favorite hobby.

I too get these but only because I am a member of American Hiking Assocation. They use it as a membership drive. Like what has been stated, its kind of hit or miss. Although I usually find one or two articals in there that I will actually read through. I actually prefer my sub. to Bushcraft Mag and BackWoodsman more. Lot more interesting things. To bad they are bi monthly.

Yea I get it. I have gotten it on and off since the 80's. It's the best we have right now I guess. Sometimes they really push me also. Guess I will keep it up for another year. Figg

I have never got it, or thought about it. I like to read forums better I guess.

Way back in the yesteryear the Seirra Mag was the best thing to read. Now I wouldn't line a bird cage with it
