Butterfield Trail Condition????
Does anyone know the condition of the Butterfield Trail. I suspect that it got damaged, but haven't been able to find out about it specifically. Any info would be appreciated.

UL,
Don't know the condition of the trail but I noticed a couple of days ago on a state park site and Devils Den State Park was on the list that is closed.

Thanks, OH.
If the park's office is closed, does that mean you can hike the trail without a permit??

Too bad many of the trails up yalls way got damaged. Has anyone hiked north Alabama or anyway closer to my area? Dont see any long weekends coming up so the closer the better.

The only trail in northern AL that I've heard about is the Pinhoti Trail. About all I know about it is that it connects to the southern terminus of the AT. I'm not sure how long it is or anything like that, but I'm sure you can find out more about it on the net.

Its nice... also its a little far but Big Hill Pond out off 72 at Walnut MS... Its in TN but right at the line. Let me know if interested in it. I might join you for that one.

Re: Butterfield Trail Condition????
As far as the Butterfield, you can hike several trails that are not in Devil's Den proper. The Butterfield is only in Devil's Den for a short while, most of it is in the National Forest. I park most of the time in a parking lot right by the National Forest and then hike in from there.
I can only imagine the damage though. You could probably hike the trails, but you WILL HAVE to go around down trees and limbs.
