Sylamore Section Closed!! Empty Sylamore Section Closed!!

Post by ulhiker Thu Feb 05, 2009 8:58 pm

Just heard that the Sylamore Section of the OHT and some of the other trails in the Blanchard Springs area are closed indefinitely due to downed trees and ice damage. I have not been able to confirm this, but it sounds legit. If anyone hears otherwise or hears more details, please let us know.

UPDATE!!
According to the Forest Service, all recreation areas in the Ozark National Forest are closed until further notice. The entire OHT is also closed until further notice. Apparently, it is worse in the higher elevations and the ice storm has affected some 600,000 acres of the National Forest.
You can still go into the National Forest, but the campgrounds are all closed and you are cautioned to be on the lookout for falling branches and trees while in the forest.
Sounds like a huge mess, guys. Evil or Very Mad

Any updates on this section, or the North Sylamore Trail?

Sylamore Section Closed!! Empty Re: Sylamore Section Closed!!

I realize this thread is old, but the North Sylamore Trail from Allison to Barkshed is in great shape. There was barely any damage at the lower elevations, with the ice damage being near the ridgetops. It has been sawed out, and in the 15 miles, there were maybe 10 trees left that I had to crawl under, over, or just walk around.

I drove up Push Mountain Rd. (341) and stopped at a few TH. The entire area looks like a warzone, and the Sylamore Section of the OHT is closed.
