Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
Ozark Traker Society is taking reservations for their fall Edible & Medicinal Plant Series that will take place on October 10-12. The full registration is $175. An initial deposit of $100 will reserve your spot.
For those of you who are not familiar with this class, it takes place four times a year and gets you involved in the plants that are edible and can be used for medicinal pourposes in the Arkansas area. It happens four times a year so that you learn about the plants in that specific season.
This class is taught by two notable Plant Elders with more than 80 years of experience will teach this course; this is not a weekend hobby for them, they live it.
"This experience will immerse you in local flora, over the course of a year, unlike any local program available. Through four workshops you will be introduced to local plants that are Edible, Medicinal, or have unique Survival-Utilitarian use value. You will come to know them naturally where they occur and when they occur. This is not a plant walk in which you are introduced to 50 plants only to recall 5 when you return home. With the guidance of notable Plant Elders and through the journey of experiential learning you will establish a relationship with plants that can feed you, heal you, or keep you warm. "
If you would like to purchase the entire 4 workshop course, the cost is $600, which saves you $100 total.
Visit them at https://www.ozarktrackers.org/ for more information.

Thanks COlt,
This is Awesome, I would love to be able to attend the whole set of classes. My wife would kill me if I spent $600 for "plant eating" classes, but I think that it is a reasonable price, considering the knowledge that you would gain.

If you discussed with her how much money you could save by eating wild plants, she might go for it! Not to mention the money for doctors you would save by using plants for medicine! Come on, man! Think outside of the box!

Uh, you guys may not know it but Scott, the guy I brought with me... is actualy quite good at this. Just ask Jennifer and Linda hahhaha. He is actually trying to start up a Bushwhacking Class in the very near future. This basically is where you simply go out into the woods and live, not just survive but actually live and thrive. Just a FYI for anyone who is interested in this.. may be able to talk him into doing a clinic hahaha. I know he would teach you anything you wanted to know for a Tarp Preacha hahaha

I like the Clinic idea of it too, and we could get a group of us together to learn all this.
Sounds wonderful to me.

I agree. I would sign up for that one for sure! I am still kicking myself for missing the Tarp and Hammock Clinic. So far it looks like I missed a ton of great info.

Eddie,
do some sweet talking. I've trying to find someone knowledgeable about this for a couple of years. This is just something that I don't feel like I can effectively learn out of a book.

Sounds like another clinic brewing to me!
Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
You bunch of thread-jackers! You're all banned!
Just kiddin' ya...
As for the OP, the plant class is exactly the sort of thing I've been needing. I would LOVE to do at least a couple of these.
And, as for Scott doing a bushwacking "thrive and survive" clinic, I'm totally in. That would be sweet.
But, does that mean we'd all have to start carrying a hatchet all the time?
(For those who don't know, Scott always carries one.)

a lot of bushwhackers do that. all it means to me is that i need to find a lighter way to make or carry a hatchet. haha!
Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
He said he would do it for a Preacher tarp lol... I would go in on a group price for a tarp for him... hahaha. He is in under one condition.. everyone there has to eat what he tells them to. Er he will eat it first though. Just a word of warning... he does not just eat the plant life. I have seen him eat just about any and everything. No joke. So if you like watching Survior Man you would be giving an open invite to him.

I could do Survivor Man, just not Man Vs. Wild. God told Peter to arise kill and eat didn't He . Scott would HAVE to eat it first, and I WOULD NOT eat dung of anykind, including a dung beetle.
Sounds great for a clinic though. I am in, and the tarp is made.

Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
Yea well there are some things even he would not eat hahahah. But you can bet there would be some crickets or grasshopers eating though... He says that from a nutritional point there simply is not a lot of herbs or other nutritional plants that are availible in this part of the country. Not that there are non, just not many. So to get the protein, especially in the winter, you have to dig up bugs. OH MAN don't let a snake slither by though lol.

I'm so in.
Do you think I got this fat just by eating burritos and cheeseburgers?
Bring on the critters.

We just need to come up with a date... I know around the first week of Oct. he leaves to go on a cruse. Other than that I would simply have to run it by him. The only other thing is we have to come up with a incentive for Preacha to turn a loose a tarp. Last is a place to hold it. And have you ever done a burn test on a Dorrito hahahaha I cant eat them any more. Scott can tell you all about food for fire starter.

Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
Does the end of September give everyone enough time, or do we need to make it for November so that we can add the cold in the mix too? I am up for whatever, and whenever my wife allows . I know that Scott will allow me to bring my coffee, but what about hidden packs of Ramen noodles in case we can't find any food . In any case the tarp is made and ready to go, as far as I am concerned it is well worth the knowledge that I would gain (plus I know that Scott really liked the tarp ).
Eddie, do you know when Scott would like to put it on for us? Lets see his schedule and then we can work around it. If we have it in November, maybe more people can prepare, and join in.

Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
might be better to do it in November so that we can see the plants that we'll learn about for a while. Just a thought (plus I've got a wedding to go to the last weekend of Sept...boo).
Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
November would be better for me as well, if possible.
Re: Edible & Medicinal Plant Series at Ozark Traker Society
