Black Bear sighted
Friday we were coming back from Ft. Smith were I had attended the Arkansas Bandmasters convention and
we decided to take the path less traveled. We decided to go accross in to Oklaholma and come back on
the Talimena Scenic Drive. Any way at aprox five miles from the AR state line the wife (outlawpacker) sighted
a black bear that had came out of the woods on the west side of the drive, it spotted our truck and went right
back into the woods. It was just a brief spotting but it was neat! By the way the temps on the dirve was apox.
11 degrees cooler than the valley below with breeze. This area might be worth investigating with the hot temps.

...except when I'm sitting in the woods just after I accidentally dropped a big glob of peanut butter in my lap...
Added info..
Just some more info. This I did not know about the bears in the area I mentioned above. There is a old
fella that is camped here, Horseshoe Bend, that grew up in Boardcamp. I belive that Boardcamp in on the
Oklaholma side. I know that there are hikeing trails in the area. Anyway he told me today that Black Bears
were restocked in the area in the 50's. I think that was in Oklaholma. He mentioned about a old Couger
that had come out of the mountains to kill cattle. Any way neet info..
