I was thinking, to be named the winner, do you have to reach you're goal? Because it could happen that the person that looses the most weight doesn't reach their goal. In the event of that happening, would they be the winner? Just wanted to bring this up. And what is the exact purpose of the points?

No and Yes, respectively. The person who loses the most weight (% of total body weight lost, that is) will win the %TBW part of the challenge. Regardless of whether they reach their goal.

The points are awarded for sticking to your plan from week to week. The person who sticks to their plan most committedly will win the points part of the challenge. This gives the people who don't have much weight to lose an equal chance to win at least part of the challenge.

Make sense now?

I am with you so far. Now for some more what ifs.

What is the penalty for not posting. I have a trip planned that will have me hopefully without the net or my pda. This trip will span two Sundays in August. Point penalty for that week?

BFC8 Question posted by Wilky...Reaching Goal Empty Re: BFC8 Question posted by Wilky...Reaching Goal

Well, how about this:

Normally, not posting an update would result in forfeiting your point for each week that you don't post, HOWEVER, since we are a backpacking/hiking community, it wouldn't make sense to penalize members for doing the very thing we're all about. SO, since hiking/backpacking obviously qualifies as "working out," anyone doing so would be satisfying their weekly plan, in my opinion anyway.

So, I'm gonna say that if anyone is planning a trip into the woods, as long as they let me know ahead of time, they'll qualify for their points for the week(s) they're gone.

If, however, the trip you are taking is not related to backcountry activities, then you, unfortunately, will forfeit your points for the week.

Fair enough?

Jay,

Heads up. I will be gone August 14th thru the 24th and will not be able to post cheers my status.
Guys, I hope I am not coming off as rubbing your noses in this trip but I am ready to go. It has been a rough year and the old stress meter seems to be in the red more often that not. I have been trying to get out for a couple of nights each month. You have to admit that there is something about a good peacefull backpacking trip that keeps a person grounded.

I hope you enjoy yourself too Hillbilly...the stress meter really is part of the reason I got into bping in the first place.

You're on my calendar and I'll score you for those weeks. If I miss it for some reason, just remind me when you get back and I'll fix it.

HBH,
Have an awesome trip.

And thanks for clearing those points of confusion up Jay. I'm trying to clear up as many of them that I can think of to avoid an "in-game" confusion.

Guys,

I may be taking this all the wrong way but it isn't if I win or not that counts to me. It is that I need INCENTIVE to get my weight off!!
That is all that counts to me. Yes would be nice to win but I am in such poor shape that I am ashamed of what I have become.
I had already decided to start some kind of weight loss program but this is just what I need.. We all need incentive in this regard.
When the weather cools down I will get back to trail work again and I need better physical conditioning for this also. Any way
the best of luck to all....

I'm glad you're bringing this stuff up Wilky...The last thing I would want to do is be forced to change the rules in the middle of the competition to give myself an unfair advantage! Twisted Evil

Tom, I'm glad you showed up for this buddy. This fall, we'll knock out the Black Fork Mountain in one easy out-n-back. Heck, by the time this competition is over, we'll be able to do the whole thing in 3 or 4 hours. 5 tops. Laughing

We'll have a winner-take-all fight to the death, of course!

If there is a tie, both/all tying winners will recieve a shirt.
