The Search Has Started
After our discussion today, I am in the market for a new bag. I want a bag that is 15 degrees or less in rating, down, and (of course) as light as possible. I've looked at the montbell bags, and they're awesome. Before I get the money saved up, however, I want to have looked at everything that I can. Also, I'm not opposed to a quilt, because a lot of weight is wasted with compressed insulation under you when you sleep. I am 6' about 190 lbs. I know a lot of other people were talking about new bags as well, so hopefully this will help us all find a bag/quilt to hike with this year. So, no hurry to find that "perfect" bag. I'm thinking of this as more of a work-in-progress for the next few months. Thanks for your help and input.

I should have brought mine out so you could have looked at it. If you'd like to look at it sometime, just holler at me. I'll be more than happy to show it to you.

I don't know if you've heard of this company, but a lot of people seem to like them.

Re: The Search Has Started
Oh yeah UL, they are an awesome company. I've also looked at Jacks 'R Better for quilts too. Its going to take a while, but I'm going to look at as many big and small companies to try to find the bag/quilt that meets my requirements the best. Thanks for the help and let me know if there are any other small companies that you know of.
I might take you up on your offer and check out that Montbell bag sometime soon.

Amanda is making me a new down quilt set before this fall . I cannot wait, she will use Ed Speers 900fp down. The last quilt she made for a guy was awesome, and super light. The kings of down are the Jacks, they truly make a great quilt.

Oh yeah Preacha. I forgot you wife is awesome at making this stuff. Do ya'll have plans of adding a quilt or bag to your website for sale?
Re: The Search Has Started
We actually closed the website, it got too demanding on her with all our kids. She will make tarps, but only make them and then post them for sale. If someone wants a quilt really bad, then she might do it, if they understand that it will take her a while.

Preacha:
Do you have any pics of some of the tarps that your wife has made? Man, I am definitely into tarps and always looking for new designs.

Yes I do, but I am trying to figure out how to show you I am not that computer literate. I tried to post some here, but all it showed me was code

Oh, if I do, then I will post them on a new thread

Great. I'm on my way out the door to Kyle's Landing for the next three days, but I'll check when I get back.

Re: The Search Has Started
This is an old thread, but in reading, I have a few questions.
1.) are there any "mom and pop" bag/quilt makers that y'all know of other than Jacks R' Better?
2.) any pics yet of the quilts your wife makes preacha?
I'm still looking for the bag that I want, but weight is becoming the main factor that I want to focus on, so I am really considering a quilt.

Re: The Search Has Started
Thanks OH. I've seen Bozeman Mountain Works before, but I don't know anyone who has any experience with them. They do make some nice quilts though.

There are some pics of her quilts on hammock forums. She is thepreacherswife. You can also look at my page there and see some too.
