Wasn't there a song by Lynard Skynard by that name or somewhere in a song that they sang - "That Smell". LOL!

Re: My first camping trip
Alright ZL,
I have no idea who was right or who was wrong, because I don't know what convo you're talking about. And I know even less about gin (as weird as it sounds, yes I'm a 23 yo non-drinker, haha). Howeve, a "gin soaked [tirade] sounds hilarious! Don't know why but this has struck me as the funniest thing on this thread so far. And for the bear thing. I guess I've always been partial to the idea that I don't have to outrun the bear, just the group that I'm with. Guess I'm hoping to run into one of those Yogi Bear lazy types that wants to do as little as possible for a meal. Heck, the scraps from breakfast might be enough for him...no reason to be greedy.
And as for the gun thing. I have grown up loving guns, but I am VERY strongly against carrying one (at least me carrying one). The reason is (get ready to laugh...wait for it) they are to stinking heavy. I mean good gosh, a 45, that would be half my pack weight...haha !
Sorry, just had to be dumb. I'll see you guys tomorrow!

Yea Kyle.. thats the main reason I don't tote one either.. to blooming heavy.. Only time is if I go deep backcountry. I have known a guy that would forgo some food to carry one though. The idea was if he needed more food he could always shoot something lol.

Re: My first camping trip
Hey guys,
Sorry I didn't get in on this sooner. I read the first few posts and had had a good laugh, and hadn't gotten back around to catching up.
Geez!
I'm not going to rehash the whole thing, but I will say that if Snow really decided to leave, that's okay. He can do what he wants. If he decides to stay, that's okay too. Though, I would have to encourage him to jump into the fun side of a conversation from time to time and just share an experience he has had rather than take every opportunity to "soapbox." I don't mean any offense in saying that, but that's how it comes across, whether you want to see it that way or not.
That's all I'm gonna say about it.
And yeah, I think starting a political forum is a good idea. I think I'll probably do that.

Re: My first camping trip
Gonna throw another vote that way. I already talk openly about religion. Don't want to press my luck !
Re: My first camping trip
Hey, AB is a quasi-democratic forum! So, if you guys prefer not to have a politics forum, then so it shall be done. Or not done, rather.
Re: My first camping trip
I say go for it, Jay. That way it won't be mixed and mingled in with non-political posts, and still give people a place to discuss those things.
Re: My first camping trip
Please no politics forum. All it would take is a bit too much gin and I'll be telling you all how stupid you are, how your politics suck, how your religion bites, and then I'll start talking about your mommas.
Then Jay will have to kick me off and you will all miss me.

Re: My first camping trip
I'm a preacher, and yes my faith and politics may come out underneath in some of my posts, but this is a backpacking/camping forum, lets keep it that way.

We wouldn't miss you too much, Zen. You are a troublemaker anyway. You started this whole thread to begin with!

Re: My first camping trip
I'll cast my vote for NO political forum. There are other backpacking forums with that CRAP on there and all it does is take away from the reason for the board. Once you get people arguing about politics and religion, then they will always have a bias toward each other's subsequent posts.
Leave it off this board, PLEASE!!

Re: My first camping trip
Looks like I was over-ridden, so I will agree with the majority. No political forum!
Re: My first camping trip
I hereby issue this official decree: From this day henceforth, there shall be made no concessions for any forum which, by definition alone, would impose any politically encompassing discussions upon the members of Our Arkansas Backcountry Website.
Let it be written.
Let it be done.
