Ultralight Doesn't Have To Be Expensive

Great list UL! That's fascinating. God only knows how much money I've spent on gear that is overpriced and overweight when a little trashbag and a pepsi bottle would do just fine.

I love this list! This was the first gear list that I used when I went UL. It is really kinda funny how going UL can be so cheap! Thanks for reminding me about this.

I know after the ERL trip and also since its getting to be the time of year where we get out more, I wanted to bump this thread so people can see that you really can go lightweight easily.

I like this gear list too. I was on the ERL group hike also, and wish I had used a lighter everything. I was the guy hiking with his wife. We finished the loop but due to a technicality I'll have to do it again. Soon. Lighter.

Really the climbs weren't all that bad, just a little slow going. Lightening the load would have helped. All in all a great, great hike. Looking forward to going again before too long, maybe a solo.

Thanks for bumping this thread. There is a lot of very helpful information in that list.

The great thing about that list is that it teaches you how to evaluate everything! Most of us have lighter weight items that are listed that drop our base weight down, and some of us are willing to shell out a bit more money for lighter weight things as well. If you keep carrying something that you never use (first aid excluded), do not take it. I also have an ULA Conduit backpack that is 3200 cubic inches. It forces me to consider what I take, else it will not fit My pack also weighs 20 ounces, my first pack weighed 4.5lbs

Maybe I can start to compose a list of gear UL hikers need to borrow on the trail. Haaa, just joking Stingray!

And just for clarification to everyone who has not hiked with me, most hikers who consider themselves "UL" would NOT consider me to be in their club at 16-17lbs. I just manage to mooch equipment at their level

Well I now have some dehydrated water for sale if you need to buy some.. hahahaha

If you carry extra toilet paper, sometimes you can really make some money from those who try to go UL by not bringing any. You can really "clean" up hahahahaha

yep.. I have seen all kinds of things traded for TP.... beware trading for food items if the person giving is trying to touch it though hahahaha

Yea Clif the one thing I always have ample supply of is TP!
