I did west to east in the late 80s. We had a very cheap tent. Our breathing creating so much ice on the tent it nearly came down.

Thanks for the great trip report. Hiking with kids offers its own challenges and rewards. I think I'll follow your route when I take the family into the Caney in a few weeks.

Caney has something for everyone. I know some folks get tired of me saying it but if you like a challenging trail
the Buckeye trail is great. No problem going off trail also. The main reason that i haven't done it in recent years
is because I have been slow to build strength after my knee replacement of June 2007. I am now walking three
to four miles a day. No problems with that now.
