Which Climashield?
I am trying to put together some quilts. I have bought two pieces of Rip Stop Nylon. I want to put together two quilts. I am afraid to try down right now so I have chosen the Climashield. Which one do I want? I know I will someday want two weights but which would give me the most bang for the buck now? Maybe someone knows one beter.

I have worked all the different weights of Climashield, both Climashield XP and Climashield Combat. I find that 5oz. Climashield XP gives you the most bang for the buck. It really doesn't add but a few more ounces and protects down to 20*.
Amanda made a quilt for a guy that had 2 layers of 5oz, but that was way and weigh to bulky and heavy. She also made a 2.5oz quilt that was very thin and light, but it was almost a glorified ripstop sheet .
My 2 quilts made from 1.1oz ripstop nylon and 5oz Climashield XP weigh just a little over a pound each. These quilts are great DIY projects, and as long as they are put together, who cares how they look. Make sure that you tack the quilt with polyester yarn about every square foot, that way the insulation and outer shell doesn't move around. Tack them a little lose so that you don't compress the insulation though. Have a great time.

I built a hammock underquilt using 2.5 XP, just to see how light I could make one. I did sleep down to 38 with my 8.5 oz underquilt, but this was in the backyard. I don't know that it's worth messing with, it's so thin. It would only be good for summertime backpacking, which I don't do in the Ozarks.
If you were going to make a warm weather quilt, I would suggest getting some of the 3.7 Combat.
You might also consider two layers of 3.7 Combat, if you think a single layer of 5.0 XP wouldn't be warm enough and two layers would be too bulky.
I've been using a hammock undquilt with two layers of 5.0 XP, but haven't reached it's lower limit. I can remove one layer, so theoretically it's useful for the season, except for late spring and early fall it might be a little warm.
You can get the 2.5 XP, 5.0 XP, and 3.7 Combat from Thru-Hiker and saved on shipping costs.

Thru-hiker is the Only place that Amanda I order ours from. We have tried other places before, and found out when we were taking the other stuff out of the box, that Paul's (AYCE) at thru-hiker is a whole lot better. He is also very knowledgeable and will help you all he can if you give him a call.
