Recomendations on a cheap GPS

Clif the 60 is much more accurate, wont lose signal as often, screen is easier to see in daylight and the buttons are not quite as easy to hit in your pocket.
The 300 has the ability to lock the screen in any mode you like but it requires unlocking to do anything else (just a few more buttons to push), much larger screen, little bit more customizable features, and a few more odd an ends as far as what can be tracked.
The 60 loves batteries, is a little heavy and bulky, has hard buttons rather than virtual buttons, and is blue chart capable ( 300 may be, I don't know about that).
One of the main things that I personally like about the 60 is the ablity to reset the odometer separate from the trip odometer. This allows you to do daily mileage as well as total trip millage. The 300 will only allow you to rest the trip. Thats a huge plus for me. The trip logs are easier to manage in the 60 than the 300 even though the 300 uses a more robust log manager system ( yeah figure that one out). I am sure there are more but those are just the ones off the top of my head lol.

reviews I found these and they pretty much agree with Eddie's discription. I have made up my mind that I am not going to purchase a GPS without holding it in my hand and a little play time. I want to thank you gearologists for your input because you saved me from buying a cheap unit that I would have regretted.

I've been annoyed that instead of the price coming down on a good unit, they keep growing and adding features. I understand some need these..bluetooth, touchscreen, more memory... but why can't a good all around unit that is easy to see and have enuff capacity for topos be out there that doesn't have to connect to my phone, or store my mp3s, or talk to me????

I agree Clif, but when in compatition with other units it is the features that sells it. People just like features and there are people that had rather play with their GPS than just do the miles. It doesn't help people like us that just want a simple reliable unit that doesn't break the bank!

That is exactly why I haven't purchased one yet. I want a good one, possibly with a SPOT system, high gain antenna, etc., but that is about it. Amanda makes me take a phone already, so I don't need all the fancy stuff. Now if thry made a phone with a high gain antenna, seperate from the cell towers, plus good battery life, I think we would all be in business.

I have said the whole time they should make a basic unit with the features being modular. you want a camera, add it, you want a phone add it, you want MP3... add the software. There was a PDA unit way back in the day that held this idea, if anyone remembers the old Handspring. They were all about the modules.
