Trail Monkeys New Under and Over Quilts
Ok.. some of you know and some of you don't but Preacha's Wife is making me a new set of Down Under Quilt and Over Quilts. 900fp down with a 2.5 inch baffle and a overstuff for a finished 3inch thick quilt. This sucker is going to be amazing. The way I figure it I can go down to about 0 degrees in my undies. Would be a pain getting in and out but still... He just told me that he got the down in and it is a Amazing sight. 24oz of 900fp down in this sucker lol. So maybe we can get photos of the progress posted here. I want to see that much down.. lol. His house will be busting the door frames out from that much down.. 3 years from now he will still be chasing down... lol. Thanks Preacha er Preacha's Wife hahaha.

Re: Trail Monkeys New Under and Over Quilts
I know that this is an old post, but I delivered the quilts to TM on Thursday!! I think they are pretty amazing, and since the down came with 3.1 ounces per bag, the quilts actually have a total of 24.8 ounces of 900fp down. Each quilt is 46"X72"X3", has 8 baffles, and 12.4 ounces of down. They compress down to nothing and weigh about the same. I will let TM post pics, as it seems that the only pics I have is one of Amanda sewing a baffle.
We stuffed the baffles in a bathroom, and picked up the extra fly aways with a vacum cleaner hose with a piece of cloth between the parts, to stop the feathers from going in the cleaner itself. I then blew the fly aways back into the baffles . Working with down is sooooooo much fun

Preacha, you left not too long before I got there! I was hoping to get to meet you this weekend, but we had a good time anyway.

Man.. these things are amazing. Had to through my sleep pad out as I was sweating to bad at 35degrees. Little bit hard to keep the top quilt in place so am looking into a couple of mods for it to help me out as I toss and turn a good bit. It worked fine when I layed out my sleep bag on top of that top quilt the next night and that helped hold it in place. Will keep you posted.

Sorry that I had to leave before you got there . TM, I am glad that they are working for you. Let me know how the mods work for you. My top quilt is 4" more narrow than yours, and I just wrap it all around me
Re: Trail Monkeys New Under and Over Quilts
Yeah but maybe because mine is about 4 inches and lighter and more fluffy it wants to slide off. The second that you move and it comes off you there is a HUGE cold spot lol.

FWIW, I was out there using a GoLite Ultra 20, which is skinnier than TM's new one and I managed to not have any problems. Then again, I tucked the edges under, fell asleep, and woke up in the same position 5 hours later.
Re: Trail Monkeys New Under and Over Quilts
I never thought about them being too light and fluffly !!! I knew that I wanted to make yours wider, but never thought about it sliding off so easily. I think that there is a channel sewn into the top end, but I don't know about putting shock cord around your neck . You will come up with something I'm sure (duct tape works great )
Re: Trail Monkeys New Under and Over Quilts
was thinking of clipping the top and bottom together at the foot end with the office super clips, the triangle ones that really hold. Just clip the edges together. Then if I like the way that fits either put snaps there or some narrow omi tape stitched to the the edges on the foot end only.

I like the snap idea, we sewed omni tape on the sides for a guy once, but I din't really like it that way. Snaps or buttons seem like a good way to me.
