I know of 3 guys blessed with tick bite related illness they picked up this spring. An issue to be aware and take precautions. One of them is saying that one of my old depended on rules is phooey.... they do NOT have to be on you for 24 hours for you to contract some illness.

How do you pull a tiny tick off without squeezing? Different suggests on the web have varying ideas about removal. More than one say to pull firmly and avoid squeezing as this could force more yuch into the bite. If you don't hold on, you can't pull it off??

Anyway.. dope it up and try to avoid these more than pests. Take extra precautions if you are in their hunting grounds.

I managed our four day trip around the ERL trail the first week of June without a tick. I sprayed my cloths (boots, socks, pants, shirts, hat) and tent (fly and base) with Sawyers and then used 100% deet on my exposed areas. That deet is some rough stuff and I only use it when I'm heading in to some serious tick territory (ie; ERL). Anyway, do what works for you....

I used the Army Surpplus stuff and I ended up with 4 ticks total for the entire 6 or 7 days I was at the ERL. But I was in brush so thick that at times you could never see the ground much less the trail. I was more worried about the snakes than the ticks though. Now skeeters... thats something totally diff... but for the next thread lol.
