Good basic Alcohol stove
Recently there has been quite a good bit of discussion of alcohol stoves here on the site. I don't know why I didn't think of this site sooner. The same fellow that makes the hammock tarp that you saw in my pics of our recent trip into the Little Mo area. Here you will find a good basic, light weight, alcohol stove, actually two stoves with wind screens for a very good price.
Just passing it on.

Thanks for posting the link. Those are very affordable. I swear I'm going to succeed at making one though. Well that or burn the house down. Whichever comes first.

Ouachita Explorers:
Here's a link for a great little homemade alcohol stove.

This is the stove that Andrew Skurka and a lot of other long-distance hikers use - primarily for its ease of use.

I toke the information I got from this group and built the soda can stove. It worked great. I was amazed that something worked right the first time. I went to the Freezer Bag site got sme ideas and made dehydrated pancakes and instant syrup. They were great.

The original SuperCat.. (I think) was from Jim Woods http://jwbasecamp.com/index.html . I see he did some updates to the stove. Also the DIYers out there, don't forget about http://zenstoves.net/ A wonderful site if your looking to expand.

Tom
I was a little disappointed that the soda can stove, unlike the beer can stove, did not have a simmer ring. I noticed after visiting the site you just gave that they use a totally different stove and just put less holes. I wonder if that will work with the soda can model. I think I have enough material left over to try it. I like the windshield also and I think my metal tent poles will work in place of the nails and the flashing will lock together like the cone project we looked at last week.

If your soda (pepsi) can stove is a top burner you can make a simmer ring. If it is a side burner you are stuck with it as it is. I havn't tryed to make a simmer stove but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Most of the time if you are only boiling water then you don't need the simmer capabilites.

Re: Good basic Alcohol stove
I used my Alchy stove for the first time on the trail this weekend, and I really like it!!! It was super light, and heated my chili up great. It will always be my stove when I am going solo. For a group though, its hard to beat a canister stove.
Re: Good basic Alcohol stove
Well I actually made a stove out of two RedBull cans. Tryed it out this afternoon and it works but doesn't quite put out enough heat. I have a Triangia stove that works great but I need to make a pot stand for my Heini pot and I am set.
