hike suggestions for 40mile with shuttles
Looking for a 40 mile hike to do in 5-6 days. Good views, exciting trail, and fun sites to explore are a plus!

Are there shuttles? Cause we'll probably only take one car. It would be the week of our spring break so a nice, slow hike with plenty of time to check out the surrounding areas and view is a must!

Oh yeah and one hell of a good shuttle service too. My freind Bill at Buffalo Adventures is the BEST, BEST I tell you. Colt and I just did this trail on New Years day and we used his service. Lots to see, and lots of history around there, if you know where to look and what to look for. Sounds like I need to guide your little group... hahaha

Having a shuttle service is a huge plus! Hey, if you can hike leisurely for 5-6days and skip on any obligations, then welcome back to college! haha see you on the trail

Another option is to base camp out at the river and day hike everything. Most all the really good spots can be hiked to and the REALLY good stuff is not on the BRT anyway lol. I almost have a couple of guys here convinced of that. I have spent pretty much the past 20 years up there around that river. Know most all the sweet spots. hahaha

God, this is getting to be a scary habit, but I agree with TM.
The Buffalo River Trail is a fantastic 36+ mile trip, with awesome views and you can make it a 3 or more day trip easily. Again, like TM said, there are some good shuttle guys around to take your car where you need them to.
Take a look at the Buffalo River Trail section on this forum and read some of the trip reports. You should get some great ideas from them.
Good Luck,
UL

Not many trips going to be better for that kind of mileage around these parts. And its not really a tough trail for the most part. Only place is Slatty Place and that little climb out of Kyles Landing. Other than that its not bad. I actually hate the decent to Indian Creek from Slatty place worst than either of thouse climbs.

Re: hike suggestions for 40mile with shuttles
If you want to travel to the SW part of Arkansas (around Hot Springs), there is always the Womble Trail (Mena/Story Ranger District.) It's right around 40 miles in length, and this time of year and into early Spring you probably won't see another living soul out there.
The BRT, which the fellas mentioned above, is more scenic but the Womble provides lots of solitude and solace.
It isn't as lonely during the warmer months because the mountain bikers return.
I'm in that area pretty often, so if anybody wants to hike it, I'll shuttle you for a Mountain House Lasagna. (Seriously. I love that stuff.)

Something that everyone should take into consideration on any trips in AR for quite some time is that some parts of the state just went thru a masive ice storm. Before you go anywere I would contact the ranger district in the area that you would be hiking. I would think from what I have been hearing that some areas may be like hiking in a war zone with a lot of the trees down. I feel like that the Southern Ouachitas have escaped any major damage.
When I know I will pass on the word.
