If you canoe or kayak anywhere around Arkansas, and if you care for our natural environment, you NEED to check out an event scheduled for April 26th, 2009. It's called PADDLE 4 THE PLANET.

It's being organized by my favorite Hot Springs outfitter, Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters, and is being sponsored by The North Face and Patagonia. It is a non-profit event designed promote environmental awareness.

And the best part is, it costs almost nothing to take part. (Seriously, like, burger-and-fries cheap.) And if you register before April 1st, you'll get a free t-shirt!

Register. Paddle. Save the World.

Hey Jay,

Speaking of paddling, do we get 1/2 credit for miles paddled. After all it is a backcoutnry challenge and a canoe or yak is a

strenuous way to access the back country.

That's a pretty good idea Hillbilly. 1/2 credit seems fair to me; paddling isn't easy, but it isn't the same as hiking or packing.

I'm all for it, particularly if it helps generate a little more interest in the Paddle 4 the Planet event.
