Re: MRE's?
never carried an MRE. The ones that I always saw felt like a brick. They were really heavy (I thought). However, I have eaten some and they were really pretty good. I'm not much of a picky eater though. Lucky you OH, 2 cases of free MREs...nice!
Re: MRE's?
As far as the two cases I can probably get more! My brother has a friend that brings those and also large cans of different food to him and he just gives them away. As far as bringing the MRE on a bping trip I wouldn't bring it all, just some main meals, leave the cardboard packaging at home and anything that I didn't need. The cookies are quite good, oatmeal rasin, albeit dry (but light). I even have grilled hamburger patties! Any way I am experimenting.

Re: MRE's?
You hit the jackpot, OH! MRE's (with all the fluff thrown out) can be a quick, light, and delicious alternative for meals.
Re: MRE's?
I will go thru all that I have this week end. If any of you want anything that I don't care for, not a chicken person , I will be glad to send it to you. I plan on picking up some more of these when ever I head back home. I will make a list of the meals. As far as weight, if you only take what you need I dont' think that the weight is to bad.

Re: MRE's?
I have eaten to many of those things with no choice to solicite any of them. That being said I liked the spagetti, beef stew, chicken pot pie, and the ham slice. The oatmeal cookies and dehydrated fruit cocktail are both good. Beware of the cheese spread, you can set fence posts with that stuff. (it does that same to your digestive tract).
Re: MRE's?
Yea I decided not to try the cheese spread. Didn't look to good...

Re: MRE's?
I have carried MRE brownies with me in the past as a dessert at the end of the day. They taste great.
Some of the entrees taste better than others. They also have a MRE milk shake that tastes very good.

Re: MRE's?
I use to have to eat them all the time. Each pack has 2,000 calories in them!!!! Not the main entry, but the entire pack. I use to trade mine back and forth, and before they put the little heaters in them, I would put mine up on the roof of our barracks so that it could heat up by noon. I liked all of them mostly, as I am not very picky, but almost everyone stays away from the cheese.

Sounds like an opportunity to recruit more trail workers to me OH... "Show up for trail maintenance, and get FREE MRE's!"
Re: MRE's?
Jay,
Well looks like I need to make another trip to S.E. AR! I do plan to get all that I can on the next trip south. Just don't know when that will be.

Re: MRE's?
Tom,
I am sure that you have seen the news lately about the latest peanut butter scare. I just wanted to remind you to watch the PB in these MRE's and all MRE's and any PB packaged for the government, schools, nursing homes etc.

Re: MRE's?
Shortly after the great ice storm of 2009, I got a notice in the mail regarding the FEMA MRE's, warning of tainted PB. I think it said to just throw them away.
