How many of yall journal while you are out on the trail?
I just made me a new leather journal today, and got to wondering how many of you journal while you are hiking? I journal everyday at home, but sometimes while on the trail I do not have time. I thought about carrying a small pocket notebook to keep track of interesting things that I did or saw, because sometimes I forget, and it is a long time before I remember them again. I have also thought about making a small leather sketch book that will hold up well in my pack, and I can put a small golf pencil in with it. Oh well, just wondering if yall do it, and then how?

Well I havnen't in the past but would like to in the future. As of now I am healing up from a pain in my left heal and haven't been out much except short day hikes and around here in the park. When I do get back to the trails (as in soon I hope) I would like to record what I saw and my thouhts. I wish I had a record of my earlier hikes in the 70's, not just fading memories.

Probly a good idea. I have often tried to remember all and put stuff down after I get home. Over nighting on a trail would leave lots of time for such things tho. Somewhere between worship, self reflecting and prayer around the campfire, I have often come up with ideas or something I could turn into a song. Putting them down at the moment of inspiration would be cool.

Never have... Thought about it but just never did... Ask Colt... I really dont have the time on the trail to do it. Even at night. He likes to read a book before bedtime but hell I am asleep WAY before then lol. If I cant remember things about the trail or even doing the trail then thats just another reason for me to do it again lol.

You have to fall asleep before Colt does, other wise you couldn't get to sleep . I do not normally journal on day hikes, but on overnighters I sit around the fire and jot down the days things, I do it at lunch too, unless I need to be getting on down the trail.

I journal everyday. I also do on a trip. Most of the time it's the same type stuff I do at home (prayers and such), but it focuses more on nature and creation when I'm backpacking (i.e. thanking God for creation and the chance to enjoy it). I usually carry a Moleskine Journal. Not light, relatively speaking, but it works for me.

I generally carry my video camera and video journal as I go. But I do occasionally carry a notepad and jot things down at night.

You could take along a mp3 personal recorder. They are small and light. I have one that is a voice recorder,mp3 player, radio and a 1 gig memory stick all in one, weighs about 3 ounces. When you get home from your trip you could transfer the recordings into written word.
Have a great day,

That is a good idea Ed, I just got home from my hike and that is exactly what I needed. I was really trying to cover some grond so I did not carry my journal, but I sure wish I did.

Yeah, we will hit the trail soon. I am posting a new thread in our Team B board to discuss the possibility of a Eagle Rock Loop team hike soon.
