Hey everyone. My name is Jedediah Hunt, but most of my friends call me "Jay." I grew up in the Southwest Missouri region of the Ozarks, and ended up working in Hot Springs, AR so that's how I ended up here. I used to be a pretty avid backpacker, but work and family pulled me into the concrete jungle for a few years. When I found myself in Arkansas, I wanted to find out as much information as I could about the various wilderness areas and trails, groups and organizations, outfitters, etc, so I could get back "out there." I found that there are a lot of groups around, and many fabulous people, but there wasn't really a common place where all the groups and individuals around here could get together and discuss and share. That's why I started this forum.

I'm going hiking today, but when I get home tonight, I hope to be sending out emails to all the various groups around (like FoOt, etc.) to let them know how incredibly pleased I would be to have them here. I hope to have a good list of "custom" forums that each group can use as they wish, as well as provide a common place for the groups to intermingle, and for us all to individually share our knowledge and build relationships. A forum is a great place to drum up participation for upcoming activities as well.

So, welcome to Arkansas Backcountry; a place where it's okay to be "seriously out there."
