Your Opinion On This Hammock Empty Your Opinion On This Hammock

Hey willky and preacha man:
With our talk (willky) yesterday about hammocks, I thought I'd look around for one that would fit into my UL requirements. Found this one at Campmor and wanted some opinions on this. As I really don't know that much about hammocks, I am at your mercy.

UL,
I actually own a hammock just like this, and for a no frils hammock, it is a good one. I've never had any problems out of it, but I would reccomend changing the ropes out (but I can help you with that). Its an easy mod and makes the hammock stronger. The only other problem is bugs. You'll have to come up with some kind of mesh to combat that, but that can be easily done too. Hope this helps!

UL,

I am a hammock camper also. I use mine in all but the coldest weather. Hammocks are a one of those things that have no middle ground, you either hate them or love them. I have a Hennessy that I use. The one you posted has no bug screen but hey for 10oz and 20 bucks it gives you a chance to try it out. That hammock and a silnylon tarp and your are set for a post 1st frost hiking (no Bugs). You and Wilky probably had this conversation already but you can ditch your pad and tent and tent accessories and save some weight.

20 bucks is pretty cheap. You just about cannot by the ripstop or taffeta and a stong light cord for that.

Be forewarned about getting a hammock, it ain't easy going thru life being known as a swinger.

Thanks guys,
I have not used a hammock before, even though I own one of those military jungle hammocks. I thought that the one from Campmor might be one to start with, especially for the low cost, and to see if I like using one.
Thanks again,

If you want to try it out on the trail, I can make/loan you a bug net "sock". Its super easy to use and will fit any hammock. Let me know if you get that hammock and need some netting.

Thanks willky, I'll let you know if I decide to get it. It looks like a pretty good hammock for the price.

That's a really good deal, but I make all my hammocks. My wife and I own 2 hennessey's and a Claytor Jungle Hammock, but my favorite is still my DIY one. I agree with the bug net, but once it frosts over you will not need one. I use a 10X12 Silnylon Cat tarp that my wife makes, sometimes in the summer I use an 8X10 Sil Cat tarp that my wife makes. I love hammocks Very Happy

Try it, for $20 who knows you may like it, and if you ever want to try one with a bug net, you can always try someones Hennessey or Jungle Hammock. Also, Switching the ropes to 1" Ployester webbing will save the trees.

Thanks for the help, Preacha.
I'm still just kinda toying around with the idea of a hammock. I'm still a die-hard tarp guy myself.
