Grand Canyon in November
My wife & I have to go to San Diego in November, so on the way back, we have decided to do a 5-day hike into the Grand Canyon. We've planned an easy hike (as easy as you can get in the GC), with the average daily mileage of only 4.5 miles. We plan on staying at Indian Gardens the first night, Bright Angel Campgrounds the second and third nights, and then back to Indian Gardens the forth night. This will let us do some dayhiking on the third day at the bottom of the canyon, before heading back to IG on the forth day, and then out the south rim on the fifth day.
BTW, in keeping with UL philosophy, my wife's base weight should be about 8 lbs. and mine should be no more than 10 lbs. This will help tremendously when both going downhill and then back up out of the Canyon.

Re: Grand Canyon in November
I'll be looking for gear lists ! Sounds like an awesome trip. The Grand Canyon is so cool. I went there a few years back kind of as a pit stop on the way to a mission project. I remember saying "I don't want to the the earth's butt crack", but it was truely amazing. I felt real dumb because I couldn't stop talking about it the rest of the day.

<throat clearing noises> alcohol stove <more throat clearing>...! I can't resist.
Re: Grand Canyon in November
I know! I know! I've got a couple of alky stoves and that may very well be a possibility. It would certainly save 7-8 oz. 'Course the additional weight IS in my wife's pack, soooo.......(Just kidding, Dear) I will definitely give it some additional thought. Something to consider though is whether GC allows open fires, which most places consider alky stoves to be included. I'll have to check on this some more.
Thanks for your input.

Re: Grand Canyon in November
Just make the stove a "closed" fire by putting a wind screen around it...haha!

Thank You!
I have always had a facination with the Grand Canyon and I enjoyed your trip report and slide show! I just recently bought (used) Colin Fletchers "The Man Who Walked Through Time", read it in just a couple of days. You can find this out of print book used for cheap now. What a great book on Colin's walk through the canyon. In any case thanks again for a great report and pics!
