Sand Dunes in Sept.
Due to a time constraint I will not be able to do the complete OHT thru-hike in September. Therefore, I switched that trip with Colorado's Great Sand Dunes Natn'l Park trip. It is hiking ten miles across the Sand Ramp Trail, then up the Sand Creek Trail to Sand Creek Lakes. The scenery on this trip is breathtaking every step of the way. It is truly one of those trips of a lifetime. It is a four day journey on intermediate terrain. From Sand Creek Lake we can tackle a nearby 13000 footer if we feel up to it. I plan on driving the 13 hours straight through, the first day is a generally flat hike on the outskirt of the sand dunes with wonderful views. That will loosen us up for the climb up to the lakes, which will be tackled on the second day. On the way back we can play in the dunes for awhile. I plan on bringing my snowboard to ride the fine sand before I leave. Let me know if any of you are interested in joining the group. Right now there is three going.
