Post by Trail Monkey Wed May 28, 2008 6:55 am

Just wanted to share with you guys a new knife design I am working on. At 6 3/4 long and 2 3/4 blade its a nice carving knife. Its a L6 high carbon Sawsall Blade. Will cut a blade of grass jus by pushing through it, is sharper than a razor I belive. Oh and its Widest point in the blade is 1" wide. I dont know the thickness. I will check it today. Working on a larger one thats 7 1/2 with a 3 3/4 edge. Just thought I would share. Peace.

You know... not realy.. hahaha I have a Puma Cobra that I really like the sheath on.. I may try that design. This knife really is nice for carving.. and light. The balance is on the middle finger. If you place your index finger right on the front cord the balance would be just almost at the middle finger. Its short enough to allow you to choke up on the blade almost all the way to the tip. AND HARD... broke 4 drill bits trying to get a couple of holes in the thing.. Just weighed the thing and its 1.4 oz. Pretty damn light if you ask me.. I carried it to a freind last night who is a proffesional sharpener. It will now cut that thin recept paper, you know the thearmal kind, both pulling and pushing with no effort. lol. This thing is increadable. I think it may be my best one yet. Have a mora type knife I am working on next. lol

Ok update... lol. Both of these knifes will cut nylon trotline string directly in mid air. Just let about 8in dangle from your hand and slice it. No need to swing it, just slice it. After about 10 ft of string I beileve the knifes are sharper then when started, if thats possable... lol. Also started on a new paraframe handle and a different blade shape.... lol. Just guess I am having to much fun with these things.

Ok.. design no. 3. Don't know about this one, it does not feel as nice as the others but the addition of the slot in the blade with paracord wrap really aids in a thumb rest. 7.5 overall and 3.75 blade and 1.1 oz. its really something elese. All these blades are a high polish but due to the way light is hitting them they look dark dull finish.

eddie:
I really like the bottom knife. The slotted blade idea is great at keeping the weight down and if we could get a Nydex-type scabbard for it, it would be great to wear either on the hip, tied to a shoulder strap, or hanging around your neck. My vote is for either #1 or #3.
Thanks,

hey, eddie:
could you do a paratrooper wrap on #1. I think that would make a very nice looking knife?
Just a thought,

I was thinking that too.. actually looking at a carbon scale or micra. Still playing around with it. I am also looking at making the second one a clip point blade. May have to put all of them on the backburner for a while. I need to get the pt. 2 of the camera peice I am doing.. er.. done. Kyle may have a fit if I don't hahahahaha. Laughing

haha either way I'll be happy. Either seeing new knives or learning about cameras. I've envious of both of these things you do. I have no idea how you got these knives so sharp though. Very impressive!

Well the sharpness came kind of natural... but now I do lay my edges back a bit more than most people. It thins down the edge a bit but the sharpness is absolutely incredible. I learned to do this from a Japanese Sword Smith that I use to teach Kendo with.. the art of the Japanese Sword. Taught me a lot about metals and how to work with them. I am thinking about ordering up a nice piece of Damascus to play with...lol. Heck I also program computers and have a complete wood working shop lol... I have always felt that you can't have too many skills... lol
