New Title!! Trip on Eagle Rock Loop Wed. 21st - Sun. 25th
I have a chance to head out on the trail in late May. I maybe solo. My family will be out of town in the middle of the week and plan to go then. I was thinking of doing the whole Eagle Rock Loop Tues - Friday. There will be driving time on Tues from Greenbrier. I believe it is enough time to do the trail. I just wonder about the blazes once you get off the Little MO Trail if they are well marked. I hope it won't be to hot. This my only chance to go Backpacking until next fall. So place and planning are important.

Lew:
Plan on about 3 hours drive time from Greenbrier to get there. As far as blazes, the trail is well marked and you should not have problems following the trail. If you don't see a blaze every couple of hundred yards or so, stop and double check your location. The trail is that well marked.
We did the loop in 2 days back in December, so you are giving yourself plenty of time to get this hike done.
Enjoy,
Jim

Hopefully when you head over this way the FS will have the roads and the low water bridges
cleared up. We might be up that way next week end. If we do I will report to you the road conditons.
Either we will be doing some trail maintence in the Caney Creek area or up on our section of the OT.

So this will be your first solo, huh? That's exciting Lew!
Remember the Arkansas Backcountry Soloist Rulebook. Here are some selected rules to remind you:
#15: Don't be skeered of them coyotes. They just like to hear themselves holler. It's the skeeters that'll gitcha!
#22: Find a good campsite far away from the trail, so you can experience nature the "natural" way. Nekkid!
#37. Don't take foods that make you gassy. Ain't no fun stinkin' up the tent if there ain't no one to share it with!
#44. Grow yer beard for a month before you go so when folks see ya on the trail they'll think you're a bonafide thru-hiker!
#61. If a bear gives you trouble, squirting honey at it won't help. Just trust me on this one.
#72. If you happen to see another solo backpacker out there carrying a blue and grey Osprey pack, with blue Nalgenes, tan pants, a pretty big gut, light brown hair, blue eyes, huffing and puffing with a red face because his pack is too heavy, and goes by the name "Jay" be sure and offer to help carry some of his things for him.
Hope you get to go. Have fun and be safe!

Eagel Rock Loop
Hey Lew 1st let me tell you that I came from the other side (TT) and am very glad you have found this site! WOOOHOOO I did the loop several years ago. Cant remember alot about it being marked but the trail is very easy to follow. That has got to be one of my top ten favorite camp areas along that route. Hope you enjoy this hike.

The trip is around the corner
Today is the last day of my Daddy Maturity leave. The last part of my time off is going to be backpacking next week Eagle Rock Loop. I am excited about this trip due to this is my only chance to BP until Fall. I have enjoyed the time with our new daughter but I am also looking forward to spend time on the trail. I will post a gear list later on this same thread. The first question I have is directions. We are going to hike the whole loop starting at the Upper Little MO Trailhead. I have google directions that says to come in from Mt. Ida. Wondering if anyone could confirm that this is the best way to go Map Click Here! I will have more later!!
