Iphone & Itunes Empty Iphone & Itunes

I'm unable to sync my phone with Itunes. I have the latest firmware 1.1.4 but when I try to sync or add ringtones from itunes it gives me this error. "Device has timed out". I have no idea what to do. I got the phone from ebay unlocked everything else works but I just can't get itunes to sync. What can I do?
