Re: Ultra Light 101 Artilce
Great article lew, contrary to what some of you may believe by my banter with ULhiker I fully respect and follow those philosophies. After spending 30 days wandering around Joshua Tree with a 75lb pack full of climbing gear, water, food, and my clothing I vowed to myself that I never wanted to hike like that again. Took the fun right out of it. Now I havemy pack down do the bare minimum, only what I need and even though I still sleep in a tent(unless I am in a area with lean-tos)it is very light.I was hiking in the Smokeys a couple of years ago and at camp right about the time the sun was going down this father and daughter came strolling up panting like crazy. There packs were as bout as big as the one I wore in Joshua Tree. By the looks of it they were going to be on the trail for some time. I asked how far they were going and they responded just here. One night they were planning and they had enough stuff to tackle the whole AT and then some. The poor girl looked like she was going to collapse onto the ground any second. Anyway that is a great article and the philosophies should be followed by everybody on the trail, thanks for posting it.

That is a really good article. Maybe I'll consider leaving my George Foreman Grill and Car Battery-powered Satellite tv at home this weekend.

What do you mean, "Could this be what you had in mind when it comes to ultralight backpacking?" That IS my pack! I knew there was someone behind me taking pictures, but there was no way I could turn around to see them! I should've known it was you back there! LOL!

A man travels to Spain and goes to Pamplona during the great "running of the Bulls" festival.
After his first day there, he goes out late for dinner at a restuarant in the center of the town. He orders the house special and he is brought a plate ,with potatoes, corn, and two large meaty objects.
"What's this?" he asks.
"Cojones, senor," the waiter replies.
"What are cojones?" the man asks.
"Cojones," the waiter explains, "are the testicles of the bull who lost at the arena this afternoon."
