SEO Friendly URLS Not Working with joomla 1.5.2 Empty SEO Friendly URLS Not Working with joomla 1.5.2

We are using Joomla! 1.5.2 and when we started development we did not select SEO friendly URLs.
When we try to change it over now it wont work. Could it because we are using a test URL on a shared IP account?

Use Joomla plugins for SEO. You will get search engine friendly URL.
