Another new guy
Hello everyone. Figg here in Conway. I have two older kids who are out of the house and a 8 year old son who has logged over 80 miles on the AT and is in cub scouts. We try to do Pinnacle once a week. He loves his jetboil and is quite good at cooking with it. We camp a bunch with the scouts. I have been packing since the 80's. We camp mostly here in the state, but Octobers are spent in the Smokies. We have packed in Alaska and the Canadian Rockies a little. Gotta go...Figg

Welcome to the site Figg! I saw you lurking, I was wondering when you might post something!
Re: Another new guy
Hey guys. My son and I had to get ready for a Cub Scout pinewood derby race in the morning. Wish us luck. The scouts have really helped in getting him into the outdoors. May 2nd we have the opportunity to camp in a place no one has ever camped in Ar. After the Trav game at the new ball field in North Little Rock and everyone has left the park they are turning it over to the scouts for a camp out on the field. No tent stakes allowed of course. Will be a cool photo of the hubba hubba set up in centerfield. Then back to the real woods the weekend after that. Will have to see if we have a spot for photos on here. See ya later..F

I hiked the Arkansas mountains alot when I lived in Memphis. Live in the Smokies now but I miss the Ozarks. Hopefully, I will be able to thru hike the OHT in the fall.

Re: Another new guy
Hey chili, welcome, if you are looking to hike the OHT in the fall myself and some others are planning on doing so in the middle of September. Would love to have you come along. I lived in Maryville for a year and a half and spent alot of time in the smokies, beautiful place. Where do you spend most your time hiking there?

I live in Townsend. I am about 2 miles from the GSMNP and about 10 miles (by road) from Cades Cove. Yeah, the Happy Hiker is well known, but I prefer the other outdoor gear store (name of which completely escapes me) up at the other end of Gatlinburg off of 321 near the Winery.
Little River Outfitter in Maryville is the closest however.
Re: Another new guy
Hey folks, yet another new guy. I live in the Ft. Smith area. I mainly hike the OHT and Buffalo river areas.

Re: Another new guy
I'm glad there are some guys around here to do some of the PR work for me! I've been so busy during the day since I got back from Arizona that I haven't been able to get on here until late at night. Things are finally settling down, but I've got too dang many projects going on!

Re: Another new guy
The park and the trail are open. Two years late but they did it.
I am looking forward to getting on that section of trail.
I have not visited since they finished but I hear it is very nice.
I went to the state parks web site and saw the following quote
" Arkansas State Parks seems to be ahead of the curve again! The enlargement of Lake Fort Smith and subsequent relocation of the park is not fully up to date with online mapping services."
They finish the park two years late and they do not say a word, they post directions before MapQuest and they are awesome. LOL
